Title: Transparancies as cpo artwork?
Post by: shawnzilla on October 21, 2004, 11:05:55 am
I'm getting ready to build my CP (standard Lusid-type design). Here were my thoughts as far as dealing with artwork.

I'm concerned about buying/pre-fabricating a whole cpo, because I'm not fantastic with precise placement of my controls...so, I was thinking of doing the following:
1) Use 5/8" mdf for cp top.
2) Paint the cp top black
3) Print my artwork (directionals, etc...) on transparancy paper.
4) Cut out the artwork and glue it to the cp, in the precise places that I want.
5) Cover the cp with plexi or lexan

Will this look good, or is it going to look cheesy?

Build a test CP top. If you like the control placement, then design your CPO to fit.

Get the CPO printed.

Use it as a cutting guide for the new control panel (i.e., put a small hole through the center of the controls for your spade bit, or other drill bit to pass through after you've removed the cp art)

Cut the new control, then apply the cpo art.

If you like lexan use it. You are not forced to use it, just because you aren't detail oriented. I'm not detail oriented, but my CPO turned out fine (you can check the link below).. turned out fine.
