Title: Keyboard & Mouse LOCK?
Post by: crashwg on October 20, 2004, 02:22:25 pm
Is there a simple program out there that will lock both the keyboard and mouse with the press of a certain key combination?  I did a web search and all I came up with was a mouse locking one.

Yesterday my daugter managed to start a game on my snes emulator which wasn't even open and it locked up completely, not even ctrl alt del would close it!  Had to cut the power...

Today, just now as a matter of fact, she did something that rebooted my computer but left me at the logon screen (it usually logs in automatically and no it wasn't in standby...).

Well, for example in Windows XP, 2000, etc you can hit CtrlAltDel then hit enter and it will lock your computer...don't know if that will do it for you.

Isn't it amazing how small children can come up with key combos that screw things up and you have no idea what or how they did it?  When my son was one years old he managed to remap the default keys in mame.

Well...you could always password protect the user accounts on the computer.  Windows key + L will "lock" the computer, in as much as it will jump you out to the Welcome screen if fast user switching is turned on, or jump out to a logon screen that requires a username and password if fast user switching is not turned on.

I think what whammoed is talking about only applies to Windows 2000.  In Windows XP ctrl+alt+del just opens the task manager, and pressing enter at that point will not lock your computer.

Hmmm, the XP pro machine I just tested brings up six choices when ctrl+alt+del is pressed with the default being lock computer just like win 2000.  Perhaps XP home is different?

I miss the old systems that had an actual keyboard lock on the case... I used mine extensively when my daughter was a baby...

How bizarre.  I'm using XP Pro.  I wonder don't remember changing the settings, but maybe I did.  I wonder if it has anything to do with fast user switching?  I'm using Novell at work which forces fast user switching off and my XP machine there prings up the six options you're talking about when I press ctrl+alt+del.
