Title: What to do - eBay seller dropped off the planet.
Post by: JoyMonkey on October 20, 2004, 10:34:18 am
I won an eBay acution 14 days ago and sent the payment via PayPal right after the auction ended.
The seller hasn't responded to my emails, and the PayPal status is still "Unclaimed" - so I've been charged, but he hasn't accepted the payment yet- like its stuck in limbo.
I read through PayPals FAQs and I can't cancel the payment, I'd have to file a Buyer Complaint with them and they'll look into it.

Should I contact PayPal to try and get a refund, or should I wait longer?

Your payment has been 'unclaimed' means you may have sent the payment to an address that either doesn't have a PayPal account attached to it, or they might have a personal account that doesn't take credit cards, and you paid with one.

Just a guess.  And you should be able to cancel the payment if it's in an unclaimed state.

Nope. The guy has a PayPal account and accept credit cards. Aparently because he has an account, I can't cancel the payment; I have to wait for him to accept or reject it, or wait 30 days for PayPal to return the money to me  >:(

I would contact ebay first and mention that the seller is not responding.

Since he hasn't "cashed the check" so to speak, I wouldn't get too worked up yet.

You'd feel like a real ass after raising hell about it, only to find out the guy's kid was hit by a bus and he's been a little preoccupied ever since.

Not saying that's the case, but there are RL things that take priority over maintaining your eBay feedback rating. ;)

Every PayPal transaction I've dealt with has gone thru instantly with no accept/deny, EXCEPT for those cases I mentioned above.  Not sure why this transaction would be an exception.  Unless...it is in another country?

Maybe he got hurt or his computer fried.

Could be he had a heart attack.

Wait a while.

it's a paypal setting whether you automatically accept payment or manually "accept" it... I'm not sure under what circumstances you'd not automatically accept money... but some people do have it set like that.

I assume the guy is either AFK or maybe his email account is borked/spam filter haywire or somethign... have you sent other inquiries via email and get any bouncebacks or ???

I'd just be patient (for a little while longer)

I know it's hard, but I'd wait at least one more week.  I've had experiences where I bought something and heard nothing from the guy for a while.  Then he would finally respond and say something like, sorry, I sold EVERYTHING I listed and I'm way behind.

Is the earth flat?

Is the earth flat?

According so several highly-reputable articles I've read in the Weekly World News and this very informative article (http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/fe-scidi.htm), yes- the earth is indeed flat as a pancake.

another way for it to be unclaimed if receiver has a personal paypal acct and someone pays by credit card or over a certain amount, you must upgrade to business acct or deny payment.

Well, the money just came back. Now I can use the cash to buy more useless junk off eBay that I don't need! Here's what the PayPal email said:

Quote
On Oct. 6, 2004, you sent a payment to xxxxxxxxxx for $44.00 USD.

The funds have been returned to your account.

This payment was returned for the following reason(s):

This payment was funded with a credit card, and xxxxxxxxxx has not yet
upgraded to a Premier or Business account.

I guess Peale wins the prize!
I noticed that the guy is no longer a registered member of eBay.

All's well that ends well...
