Title: Primer Mistake

I'm painting my cab and made a mistake of not priming it.  Its sorta of uneven.  Can I just put primer over the first coat or should I just put a 2nd coat of semi-gloss black?  I really don't wanna have to strip it again which means 2 days of sanding which is a whole different story  :-[.


My Cab Specs:
3/4" MDF Wood
Semi Gloss Black

Primer is used to let the wood absorb some liquid before putting on the actual (expensive) paint. All new wood will suck up paint so that's why you put down a cheap layer or two of primer down first. If the first layer of paint you layed down was oil-based then you can't put anything water-based on top.

The first layer of paint is now your primer.

Normally a coat of primer and a coat of paint will suffice. Since you've gone the no primer route it may take 3 (or even more)coats of paint to make the finish nice. If the paint is really uneven you may even want to do a light sand between coats.
Skipping primer is NOT a shortcut.

Actually turned good now, I put a 2nd coat and its looking good.
