OK, I was over at the easyemu site and I was looking at the list of folders that should appear in my mame directory after I unzip it and it doesn't match what they say it should look like. I don't have the diff, hi, inp, memcard, and sta folders. I am using the mame087b_i686.zip file from mame.net.
It works fine though but someone here told me to check my mame.ini file and insert the skip_disclaimer and skip_gameinfo commands so I wouldn't have to press 'any key' (Where's the ANY key? I see Esk, Catarl, and Pig-Up. There doesn't seem to be any ANY key ;D) or 'OK' before launching a particular game. The problem is I don't seem to have a mame.ini file (or mame.cfg) in my mame folder... Any help would be great. Thanks!

Go to your command prompt and while in your mame directory type:
mame -cc
Now you'll have a mame.ini file.

As for the folders, I have a diff folder (but it's empty) and a memcard folder. The others I don't have but since I don't have any problems with MAME I don't think they're necessary. For the memcard folder though, do this:
Create a folder called memcard. Now run a game (I use Puzzle Bobble but any will probably do it) and after you exit out it will have made a file in your memcard folder called memcard.000.

Thanks! I created the mame.ini file and set skip_gameinfo and skip_disclaimer to "1" and it worked! I was not able to create the memcard.000 file though. I only have around 10 roms so perhaps it doesn't work with the ones I have.

Get the hiscore.dat file from http://www.mameworld.net/highscore/
Unzip it to your MAME folder. Create a /mame/hi folder.
Now MAME will save your hi scores for most games.
