Title: Looking for a joystick like...
Post by: pmlabrier on October 15, 2004, 05:11:47 am
I am looking for a joystick like the one that is included in the one in JAKK's "Ms. Pac-Man TV Games" .

For those who have not seen what I am talking about "Ms. Pac-Man TV Games" Is a stand alone gaming device that simply plugs into the TV.  Pt comes with Galaga, Pole Position, Mappy, Xevious, and, of course Ms. Pac-Man built in.   They run $15 - $20.

The joystick is a simple ball topped stick, but the shaft rotates 90 degrees right or left with a spring return?

Are there any joystick like that available for use in a custom control panel?

Paul

You just missed a set of Xybot joysticks on ebay.
Those would be like that.
The Ikari Warrior style joysticks would be another option if the "spring return to center" part is not critical.

Yes, Pole Position uses the twisting.  My wife just bought it, and was complaining about not being able to turn.  Had a good chuckle as I handed her the instructions.

Those tv game sticks do indeed have a pot on the bottom, and so are good for 270 degree steering games.

Xybots sticks feel similar, but just have two microswitches at the bottom, one for left, one for right, and so will only play will with games that register right and left as a button press.

Seems like there was a thread a while back about hacking the Jak's unit, I dunno if anybody ever actually did it though.
