How much do I have to route out to mount Happs Supers if I am using 3/4" MDF?

i'd say use ply wood and route 3 layers..that should be enough to get you right height...assuming you are using a plexi or lexan..otherwise no need routing. ;)

This is from a reply I got from Kelsey about his restrictor plates.
Yes, 3/8" above the joysticks. This is a common mounting depth for the Happ sticks. The locating pins require 3/16" deep holes and the removable pins require 3/8" deep holes. I've attached a cross section of how the restrictors are typically installed.

I took mine down to 5/16" or 3/8" but I mounted mine differently then most people I wanted maximum stick height but I didn't want any bolts down thru the top.
Here's a pic of the mounting . It's basicly the joystick bolted to the plywood wings with a wooden spacer between.
It is very sturdy because I then screwed thru the plywood wings into the full 3/4" thickness of the C-panel allowing the use of longer screws.

For my Happ Competition and Wico joystick I routed the 3/4" MDF cp at 1/2" over the joystick (including 1/16" thick Formica panel glued on it). Result is ok and it seems solid.

Clarification on that: When I revised the mounting plate connection with the headless bolts, I also improved the locating pins. I totally forgot about that until I saw my own words repeated. :)
Instead of the previous straight pin that extended 3/16" below the restrictor, I now use a grooved taper pin that extends 3/8" below the restrictor. I would have liked to keep the pins only 3/16" long, but I had to use the shortest available grooved taper pin I could find anywhere. These new pins grip a little better than the previous straight pin and help reduce any "slop" that may be present when not using a screwed connection on the mounting plates.
A closeup of the new pins can be seen here (http://www.oscarcontrols.com/tmp/newpins.jpg).
Thanks for bringing that to my attention, SP.

For supers? You shouldn't have to route at all. The super comes with two spacers that allow you to adjust stick height. Just use the long spacer (for wood panels) and you should be okay. I'm using my supers with 5/8" wood with no routing, and they're fine. I think you'd still get plenty of height with one more eighth of an inch of wood. The sticks are just screwed into the bottom of the panel.
