Title: flyback transformer, garbage due to snapped piece?

Is my flyback transformer garbage now?  I have a WG25K7191 that a part on the flyback has cracked either due to age or a previous owner being too rough on the screw.

  The piece appears to be made of carbon rod, and has a screw on top of it to secure it to the chassis and provide a ground as well I believe.  Is there any way to repair this piece?
  Should I just replace it with one from Bob Roberts for $22?  
  Heck does anyone have one laying around that they'd like to sell cheaply?

   I do have a Zenith made K7191 chassis laying around, can I swap the flyback from that one?  They do look a bit different :-(

That's just a mounting boss for a screw to help brace the flyback during monitor shipment. All brand new relacement flybacks for the k7000 series monitors no longer even have that screwhole. It won't hurt operation of the flyback.

BTW, the flyback for the Zenith-built k7000 chassis and the genuine Wells-Gardner chassis are completely different and NOT interchangeable. The flyback for the Zenith-built chassis is NLA and has been for some time.

ahhh, so I might just have a bad solder or bad ground around the flyback then....  

 Cool, that's a freebie fix, the wife will like that (me too!).

  Thanks for the reply Ken!  I feel much better now that I don't think I have to replace the flyback :-)  Although it could be an internal short in the flyback, but don't know how probably that would be, not likely I would think.

I always unsolder the flyback anyway and clean it off thoroughly with a rag and household cleaner. Turn the flyback upside down and look for burnt terminals (if any found the flyback should be replaced). Look at the case and around the focus screen controls for cracks/arc marks. If you find any cracks (most of the time) they can be patched with a glob of silicone glue. Let the glue set for 24 hours before powering up the monitor. If the cracking is real bad or there's a large hole in the case then forget trying to fix the flyback and get a replacement. The replacement flybacks I buy from Zanen Electronics are much superior to the originals and I believe they are priced lower than what Bob Roberts charges.
