Title: Eye Candy Power
Post by: Jkawch on October 12, 2004, 01:14:52 am
Im trying to find a good button to use for powering on my cab. I bought a rocker and a toggle switch, only to discover (which i should have known) that they wont work properly. The button on my computer was pushbutton so it would Close Circuit/Open Circuit quickly. So now Im looking for a neat pushbutton but I have no idea where to start.

If anyone knows a great site for buttons/switches or a good store I should try visiting thatd be very appreciated.

Secondly, Im wanting to wire a trackball and a spinner to my Opti-pac. The trackball is easy since ultimarc has the step by step for the happs trackball off of their site, but I dont see anywhere how to install my Slikstik spinner, since its a straight USB, Im not sure which wire goes where. Im just hoping someone has experience doing this.

Also, Im wondering if its possible to wire both and use both in mame (not necessarily at the same time). Also, one of the optical devices will ALWAYS be off while the other is on.

Thanks for any help!

this is what i did on my cabinet i just finished this past weekend..(just finishing up my website (http://www.justuslees.com/UMW) to post as a new project)

Lighted On / Off Button (http://www.justuslees.com/UMW/UMW_Pics/IMG_3166.JPG)

this is a happ lighted eliptical button and i printed the "on / off" on my computer then inserted the cutout text. for the wiring i wired the switch to the motherboard power switch header then took a old cpu fan and used the cable by cutting off the fan and attaching it to the 12v light.... this is all you need if you also get one of the Bits Limited power strips..

as for the slikstik i had the same problem, i had originally purchased the opti-pac for my trackball and 2 tornado spinners i ordered but i did not look carefully enough on the slikstik site and they say it is not compatable with the opti-pac. i hooked them up as they were and on one of the spinners i had to switch the axis but they all three worked like a champ all at the same time in windows xp which i am using....

I think I used #275-618 (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F011%5F002%5F015%5F002&product%5Fid=275%2D618)  from Radio Shack (http://www.radioshack.com).

I did add a label to the face of the button though:

I just used a momentary contact switch similar to what JustMichael suggested he used mounted out of sight with the speaker volume control as well.

As others indicated, an arcade button/microswitch would work as well.

I purchased a momentary toggle switch from mcmaster.com (http://www.mcmaster.com) and replaced the stock switch on my cab.
