What do you think?
Just a question.. please no debate.
-
Absolutely no way the US would have invaded if they had no self interest.
-
I don't think so, but if there wasn't any oil there then I'm sure the country would be alot different.
-
If you do debate this topic... It would be nice if you can rebut with under 100 words or less. Thanks!

Hard to tell. Based on Afgahnistan, yes we might have.
If they didn't have oil, they wouldn't have had the money to make the weapons (like countries in Africa) so we wouldn't have a reason to go after WMD or stop Saddam because he wouldn't have had the funds to gain weapons.

afghanistan looks set to have a major oil pipeline go through it, so i agree with fredster ;D its all about oil !!

With oil you get the money, with the money you get the power, with power you get the Girl. Girls are soft and curvy and nice to touch... What were we talking about?
Oh, ya....
oil = war

If Germany didn't have any resourses to build an army, America wouldn't have attacked them during World War 2.
Without an army Germany would have only taken France.

Yup. At the time we thought he had weapons and knew he had the desire to detroy us. After losing 3000 innocents (eight of which were close friends of mine,) we needed to be absolutely sure that Saddam and Osama didn't form a club. It is pretty simple, really.
Despite the conspiracy theories, oil had nothing to do with it.

Saddam has never attacked the US or US properties. Osama did many times and he's still on the run. Where's the justice in that?
And yes, I believe Osama is dead already. As his aids are the ones in the new videos and Osama doesn't appear in any of them.

hey, wait a sec, you said no debate. :-)
That is where we differ. I don't believe that a physical attack is the only possible justification for a physical attack. I think that f-ing with the UN is enough. He wanted the world to believe he had the weapons, and he got what he wanted.
We can agree to disagree on this, I am OK with that.

I'd say no.
no oil = no money = no payback to us after.
But, no oil = no money = no Saddam palaces = no Saddam in the first place. ;)
-

He meant no debate if you didn't agree with him.

I say yes, Saddam is a total slime ball and someone had to step in and stop all of the atrocities that were going on in that country. It was good to see an Iraqi soccer team playing without fear of their familires dying if they lost during the Olympics.

Without oil there would be no Saddam Hussain, not one who could do anything more than dream of WMDs. There would have ben no reason to invade.
The entire region would just be a backwards dustbowl that the world at large would pay little (if any) attention to.

Um... about WMD's, Haliburton and oil, and other reasons for war that confuses. Does Al-Qaeda have ties with Saddam. What's the connection there? Am I missing something? Are there really WMD's in Iraq and if not, why are we Americans still at war with Iraq? ???
-
why are we Americans still at war with Iraq? ???
The Billion dollar question...

"To free the Iraqi people from the tyranny of Saddam Hussein" according to Bush and Blair ten times a day now that the original reasons have proven to be BS all along. Have to love that picture of Rumsfeld shaking hands with the Tyrant back in the 80s!

So it's been proven to be BS that we didn't invade them to steal their oil? Or are you wanting to change your answer too now? ::)

Who are you asking this question too?
-
The guy who posted directly above me, whose answer happened to include the same phrases/words as I used in my smart-ass (lowbrow) repartee.

Ah yes, the 'words in mouth' syndrome strikes again. I don't see how my comment affects anything previously stated by myself. I said "To free the Iraqi people from the tyranny of Saddam Hussein" according to Bush and Blair not according to me, who like most people realise that this war was waged under false pretences.

Just realized, you did say no debate please. How come every time I try to delete a post I get an error message, "Invalid referring site"?
