So, who's going to the Super Auction next weekend? I'll be there, but I'm just going to go late. Not selling anything and not looking too seriously to buy right now.
-
I'll be there even though I need to finish the three games I already have. ::)
-
Ditto. (not "ditto" in the Ghost sort of way) I'll try to be there all day this time. I'll be looking for a Midway cab.
-
I've never been...can I pick up just a monitor or something of that sort?

At the end of the last auction there was 3 or 4 untested monitors that were sold. I dont remember there being any loose ones at the previous two auctions. You could always come during the preview time to see if you want to stick around.
-
Well, I just looked at the date and realized I'm not gonna be able to go anyways...damn school functions. That was a good idea gone done the drain :(
-
Where in Texas? Does anyone have a link with more detail? A road trip may be in order.
-
The auction is in Mesquite at the Rodeo Hall. Link:

LOL - I misread your post and thought you said, Where IS Texas... I had to do a doubletake. ;D
-
Well..........Where is Texas? ;)
-
you betcha, i'll be there, it seems like everytime i go i leave with something that i totally did not expect to get
my first time i got a STELLAR deal on a two player sit down driving cab, all working for 50 bucks, too bad when i was moving it my friend took a curb and it fell out of his truck (that was a VERY sad day to see that piece of 500 dollar equipment smashed on the side of the road) and last time i got me an alright deal on a quality shape street figther 2 with probably one of the most crisp 25 inch monitors i have ever seen, payed a solid 350 for that but i think since it actually had sideart and all it was worth it
that was my one game that i used to play in the arcades and think to myself (someday, when i live on my own, i'll scrape together and get one of these for my living room)
now i have one, play it lots still, still lights people up when they come in my place, everyone loved street fighter, boy or girl, old or young, everyone (even people that suck) love it ;)
who knows, maybe i'll try and get me a 4 player cab this time, i think i'm leanin towards a restoration project this time, maybe i'll find me a gutted cab, i've never paid attention, does anyone know how much these guys normally go for?
a jukebox would kick too, but my apartment doesn't need that, not when i can use an ipod for the same thing
i'm rambling
i guess i'm excited, it's like christmas every time you walk in and see all these games that you forgot about and play em all again
ahhhh tear
only 4 days left

Arcade game falling off a truck?! I can't imagine what that must have felt like while it happened....I know a friend that would though ;)
Gonna miss this one this time. It was cool meeting Eyedoc and others last time.
I be there in spirit....so buy me something.
speaking of that. no one go up against Nannuu...he's my proxy for any and all things cheap.
NY in TX (but it'll be NY in VEGAS this weekend baby!)
-
Looks like the school thing got canceled so I'm gonna head on down and pray I can find a 25 or 27" monitor.

We need a secret handshake or some cool gang sign. ;D
-
So... How did it go? I missed it.
-
it is this saturday.. you can still make it
-
Nah I'll only be looking for one Midway cab. No more. Hopefully with only a coin door. It has to be better than the last auction where there were no junk cabs at all.
-
anyone with a truck willing to drop off a cab about 6 miles from the auction in return for some help with moving and lifting? i dont have a truck and am hoping not to have to rent something out or pay crazy fees for operators to move stuff if i end up buying something..

If you are that close I could probably help you out.

Do they have pinball machines at those auctions, and if so how much do some of them go for?
I told my wife about the auction and she said, "Well, why aren't we going?"
No lie. But I think I have to work on Saturday or I would take a trip down to Texas. She has wanted a pin ever since I got my mame machine running. So I was just wondering.
-
They do have pinablls there. The price fluctuates a lot from auction to auction. It also depends on if you want a EM or newer game. I've seen 'em go for anywhere from $500-$2000 depending on condition. The more popular ones like twilight zone, kiss, etc sell on the high end. There where 5-6 Lethal Weapon 3 pins at the last one and they went cheap but I've heard that its a sorry pinball. :P As a rough estimate I would say $800-$1200 for your avg working pin. The acution is fickle mistress, you never know how much of a buying frenzy people will be in. Best bet is to come during the preview and see if there is anything you want to hang around for.

You should have bought my Solar Fox! It was a Bally/Midway with a fully-wired coin door. Oh well, it's gone now.
-
i would go just to be able to meet the guy who made all those cool vinyl stickers for everyone.. ;)
-
Scheister! They were still auctioning items off at 1AM! That's about the time they finally got around to the cocktail cabs.
-
So..... Did anyone get any good deals there?
-
Anyone get the price on the Cocktail Centipede or the Mini Centipede? I waited hours for them to get to them, but they kept putting it off. If I would have known they would not get to them til 1am I could have saved some time :-)
Sigh, I could have used that mini to get the full size one out of my house....

Oh man, I wish I could have stayed! They had to have gone cheap! I don't want to know.
<eyes shut, fingers in ears> LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!!!!!

You mean to say they started auctioning items at 10:00am Saturday after free play and they were still auctioning at 1:00am on Sunday?
-
wife talked me out of buying anything so i left after the preview =(
first time i had ever seen a pinball cocktail tho..

That's why I leave the wife at home. ;) There were some good deals to be had. I picked up a NBA Maximum Hangtime clean and working for $250. ;D I usually stay till the end but I quit at 11pm when they still had a ton of redemption to go through.
-
I bought a "dead" upright Turbo (yes another one!) for $5. The reason it was "dead" was that nobody can ever find the power switch on those things! I finally found it tonight and it fired up. The monitor needs work, but I have another one around here somewhere.
I alos ended up with a beast of an empty Lethal Enforcers cabinet for $10. I bought it for the 25" WG monitor inside. It's not working, but I think it is only a bad iso trans.
Someof the dead cabs went for $1. I hated that because I didn;t have room to haul any more home. Next time I taking a trailer........ ;D
-
Well dang next time I'll go down just to get some dead cabs then.
-

Yeppers. They started on time and didn't quit until around 1:30 AM Sunday morning.

Nope, cocktails not cheap, unless you consider $500 cheap. Some might have gone for less than that, but when the first Ms Pac cocktail went past the 500 mark I wandered off to see if any games were still hooked up for some play time...and lo and behold a Popeye and Ms Pac were powered up, yay for me!
-
I actually managed to snap off a few pictures before one of the Super Auction dudes caught me at it and told me "No Pictures for you!" This is the first time that they've enforced the no picture rule. I'll post up what I did take later tonight when I get home from work.

I'd love to see the pics. My buddy lives in down there and he has a pickup. I sure wish I could have gone. When is the next one?

This really comes as a suprise....was there that much stuff?
I attended recently and there seemed little to speak of, at least nothing that I was interested in nor much in terms of quantity that one would think would last that long to auction through.
Guess it's hit or miss....
P.S. Anyone run into notaburger? He was going to attend then give me a shout to clear out some old apple stuff. Haven't heard from him.
-
I just saw this little tidbit about the auction on RGVAC:
"It was a very long night.Near the end they were selling those slot machines with 13 inch monitors in them 8 for a $1.00 and begging people to take them."
I wish I hadn't read that one! :'(

here's the few pics I managed to snap

On the mini pac and galaga cabs...
Those are custom manufactured cabs are they not?
Wonder what was powering them.....an actual board or ?
And what about the artwork....I wouldn't think that would be licensed reproductions.
It leaves me with the impression someone manufactured those mini cabs and brought them to the auction. I didn't think that was allowed....
Any ideas or feedback?
-
As far as I could tell they were running a MAME frontend (I have seen it before, but can't remember which one). I THINK those were the cabinets with the note that said more games could be added, but there were so many 39 - in - 1's and other multigame cabs there, I can't remember for sure. They were cool looking. If I had the templete, I'd build the kids one...

Plans wouldn't be too hard starting with actual dimensions from jakobud then scaling them somewhat.
I'm workin on a couple of bartops which are going to be modeled after galaga, pacman style however with upright monitors rather than laying back and cutoff below the cp.
I started with the real cab dimensions and worked from there to mod.
-
Those minis where running ArcadeOS if i remember correctly...I was standin right by em when they got auctioned. That one guy was buyin up a lot of the nice cabs.
-
Wow! I about crapped (can I say that?) when I saw the picture of the mini's. Those are cool, and very simular to the ones that I've built.

Someone at the auction told me they went for $1200 each. Is that correct?
