I just got the phone that I've wanted for like 6 months now but haven't been able to get because we didn't have a home phone, just a cell. It's a vtech gz2456, and in case you didn't know it comes with a data cable to connect to a pc and send your own midi files to it to be used as ring tones, neat huh?
So I'm looking for MIDI files under 30 seconds long of things like music (of course), tv themes, game music etc...
It would be realy awesome if there were a site actually dedicated to ringtones in midi format as they would probably be about the right size and most likely sound pretty good on a cheap ass speaker because they are designed for that sort of thing.
The one that is currently at the top of my list of "must find ringtones" is System of a Down's Toxicity. It was available to me on my cellphone but I instead opted for the fragglerock theme which reminds me, I wouldn't mind finding a midi of that too...

Dunno what format you need them, but here....and make sure you read the FAQ's there. They're FAR harsher on newbies than here.

HoFo is THE place to find out about your cell phone. Others will specialize, but no one's as comprehensive.

Each of these sites should give instructions on how to create your own ringtones, but that's for wav's. They'll also have threads solely dedicated to midi's.
For what it's worth, midi's are a hit/miss proposition. Sometimes they sound dynamite, other times, they suck....hard.
Where'd you get the phone from? I've got the "one plug, up to 5 phones" setup with 3 handsets. LOVE their phones, but it's getting to be time for a replacement, and yours sounds cool.
*dunno if you downloaded their ringtone converter, but here's the link*

Thanks for the links. I'll check em out.
I got the phone a radioshack. Haven't seen it anywhere else exept internet sites and there though...

I have signed up for one of the sites and asked them basically what I've asked you but while I'm waiting for a response I continue my search.
I came across a cellphone site that has examples in midi format but I can't seem to download them. When I click on the link for the example a little window poops up via javascript and the window doesn't contain any toolbars and right clicking is dissabled... So I'm basically looking for a way to effectivly steal the midis from their server. Any idea as to how I can find out where they are stored?

I did a simple google search and found and downloaded 4 copies of that song midi you are looking for. I am holding them hostage until you pay a ransom fee of One Meeleeeyon Dollars. I expect payment at 5...ish...or whenever you can get it to me. ;D
Seriously, check your e-mail. I'm sending it to you, after I post this. You'll have to get a midi editor to cut the chunk you want out, as it's 3:34 long. Dunno if that phone's software they want you to download works as an editor.

here's a system of a down "toxicity" midi file: http://www.lacyborg.com/midi/rock/sistem%20of%20a%20down/system_of_a_down_-_toxicity4.mid
you know the song doesn't have to be short originially right? you use the software that came with the phone, or the link DrewKaree posted (which can also be found on vtechphones.com) to pick the 30 seconds of the song you want for your ringtone.
i just got the gz2456 by vtech yesterday but i'm unable to get my midi files onto the phone. it keeps saying download failure! check all connections and try again. =(
