Title: Trying to interface Interact Gas Pedals with Arcade
Post by: JackTucky on October 08, 2004, 02:31:15 pm
I have an outrun cabinet that has the "origjnal" gas and brake pedals.    I'm putting a dreamcast in the cab for racing games.  I want to interface the pedals that came with the DC steering wheel.

The DC pedals insides look like this:

The arcade pedals insides look like this:

I've got the wires where they are supposed to be, gas works fine, brake even kind of works, but the brake light on 4x4 evo is always on.  When I DO hit the brake, it does stop and then go into reverse, which is what it does when I use the DC pedals.

I'm guessing that the Pots have different values or something?  maybe move the brake pot a little?  Anyone know what to do to make it work?

Thanks in advance.

Hey, take the gears off of the pot, then move the pot so it doesn't brake, then put the gear back on.

Done.

Thanks!

I've got it setup so the pots start at zero, but i can't press the gas enough now.  Should I replace the pots from the DC controller into the arcade one, or what?  Thanks

I would try to switch them out. I think the arcade ones are 5K, and the DC may be 100, so there would be a big difference. If they dont fit they may have some at radio shack. Good luck...

P.S. Did you stuff that 21" monitor in yet??

Can't you just recalibrate in windows?

If I remember properly, the Dreamcast doesn't use windows! 8)

D'oh! I was somewhere else when I wrote that. :-[

AKAIK (and it's not that much):

a) dreamcast calibrates the center on bootup
b) IIRC, each pedal should output a range of ~2.5 volts (2.3v should be enough); I think one does ~ 0.2-2.5, the other ~ 2.5-4.8.  I don't know the supplied current, but V = I * R.  "The rest is left as an exerise for the student."

A couple things to note: since it's calibrated at bootup, the center volts can be other than 2.5, but the ends still need to be ~0.2v and ~4.8v.  Also, I'm basing this off a couple different gamepads; the dreamcast pedals might be different (but I doubt it).
