I was at Chuck E Cheese with the kids last night playing air hockey when it occurred to me that one of those tables would not be hard at all to build. Even better, it wouldn't be hard to integrate with something else. I'm going to be building a bar when I finish my basement, and was thinking damn it would be cool if I put a removable top on the bar that uncovered an air hockey table.
Anyone else ever attempt anything like this?

id do some google searching, i seem to recall seeing a few homemade table projects years back when i similarly played with the idea.

never thought about building myown, but Sams' club has a nice one right now for $300. real nice quality and an electronic scoreboard

While that's nice, I don't have room for a standalone table. That's why I would integrate it into the bar.

every google search I did for a BYO air hockey table allways mentioned problems getting a good air flow...
I've seen the one at Sam's club it is nice...

How does a "real" table get its flow?
couldn't you just use a wetvac with a sheet of pegboard? Those holes might be a little big though. Who has a table that they could measure the hole size?
[edit]
I just had a picture of a mug of beer sliding down the bar... ummm, beeer.

that sams club one looks like the one I just got.. w/o the top bar... mines the same outside design, w/ a black top and electronic scoring and timer built into the board... I hope to update website soon and put some new pics up of cabs (2- 33" generic cabs) and hockey table... jammed into small back room. and cost about $275? ish... from costco.
** measured hocky table holes... 3/64th bit (smallest I have) fits nicely... and the holes are 1 inch apart set up in a grid.
