OK, I've downloaded and installed the latest version of mamewah, and have gotten it basically working, but I'm having trouble with a couple things still... maybe someone could point me in the right direction;
I've put a new layout in the layouts folder, and pointed the mamewah ini file to it in place of "classic 800x600", but still no layout shows up in mamewah...
I've downloaded the latest catver.ini, but I have no idea how to use it to sort my roms in mamewah...
finally, the majority of my snapshots aren't showing up in mamewah, maybe like 1 in 30 or so at best - i have the snaps folder targeted properly - is there something I'm missing?
Thanks to all in advance for any help you can give me.

The mamewah.ini isn't finding your new layout so it defaults out to the standard one.
I have this:
mamewah.ini = layout jking_cab
then I created a jking_cab folder
saved a layout as layout.lay in that folder
background image is named main.bmp
For my VirtuaNES layout, I created a file virtuanes-main.lay within the jking_cab folder. Now it switches with the different emulators. It has a seperate background image virtuanes-main.bmp
In my case, the layout.lay and main.bmp is the default setup for the jking_cab theme. Until I create emulator-main.lay and a corresponding emulator-main.bmp, newly added emulators will use that default setup.

I haven't sorted any ROMS yet, I have an idea I'm going to try... ;)
---------------
Snapshots have to have the same file name as the ROM they represent. I'd guess since you're seeing some of them that it's a naming issue. ie:
"abcd_123.zip" needs a corresponding "abcd_123.png"

thanks cooter! finally got a different background thanks to you! led to another question tho - how come my game list and title and everything still have solid black boxes behind them? I can only see the different background around the edges of the layout boxes...
As far as the snaps not showing up - I'm thinking I simply don't have snaps for those games after all; i do seem to have snaps showing up for alot of the games, just not the bulk of the games i was looking through in the beginning. Hopefully it won't be so bad when I figure out how to sort my lists so I can hide clones/nonworking/etc, which tend to not have snaps...
thanks again for your help, cooter!

Highlight the layout box
Object Properties -> Transparent.
I'm in the same boat with the snaps & what-not. Right now I'm just getting my layouts/emulators working. Next week I'll sort ROMS... if I could only stop playing ;)

I've downloaded the latest catver.ini, but I have no idea how to use it to sort my roms in mamewah...
Point to it in \mamewah\ini\mame.ini (catver_ini_file), and refresh the main list.
Now you can select a custom list, and use the Games List Options > Generate Filtered List... option to filter on category, among other things.

do I need to point to it with a full location (c://mamewah/catver.ini)?

Yes, but not like that...it would be c:\mamewah\catver.ini . Also I'd recommend you put it in your MAME folder rather than MAMEWAH's (tho technically it shouldn't matter).

Awesome - thanks minwah; I'll try it as soon as I get home from work.
-
can i point to the mame.dat file from mamewah or do i need the mamewah setup butler?
-
should be able to point it w/out the butler by editing mamewah.ini with notepad
-
allright, maybe dumb question, but: where can i find the mamewah.ini file?
-
hey guys - i went into the layout designer and set all the windows to object=transparent, but they still show up as solid black in mamewah - any ideas what i still need to do??

In your MAMEWAH installation folder - probably c:\program files\mamewah .
Assuming you're using v1.5 or above of course...else you won't have it at all.

Did you save it? If so, make sure you are pointing to the correct layout in mamewah.ini.

ok, finally got my layouts working correctly - I think i just didn't have my files named right, so mamewah was still loading up the default layout. Thanks to everyone for your help!

OK, I'm havin a blast now designing my layouts, and I was just wondering - does mamewah support any kind of animation, say animated gifs perhaps? I'd love to do an animated loading screen and such...
On a different note - has anyone come up with a good way to sort thru console roms yet? (get rid of the foreign ones, bootlegs, etc?)

Learn to use the GoodTools (http://www.e-lation.net/site/index.php?s1=dl&s2=goodtools&n=GoodTools). Using GoodGUI/GoodWindows helps...

'Fraid not, perhaps in v2 ;)
