Title: Shipping for a 27" monitor?
Post by: theziggens on October 07, 2004, 05:31:25 pm
Ey there,

My first post to the forums, but I've been reading 'em for a few months.  So I finally decide on a monitor for my cab I plan to build, and ordered it from Happs.  The 27" SVGA Vision Pro.  I also picked up a bezel, and 2 sticks.  Shipping to Tacoma, WA was quoted at $175 for 4 day truck delivery.  I wanted to see if that's about what others have paid as well.  I guess I was thinking it would be closer to $100 than $200 for shippn'.

Thoughts and comments are welcome.

Thanks
z

Doesn't sound like you got ripped off.  Monitors cost a lot to ship because of their weight.

well, to give you some reference point, I shipped out a guitar amplifier half-stack speaker cabinet w/ 4 speakers from Indiana to Ohio. It measured about 2 feet long, 1 foot wide, 2 feet tall. It weighed about 65-70lbs and shipping via UPS Ground was around $70 (dont' remember exact amount). Hope this helps you out.

That sounds like a lot to me.  I bought a 30" Wide HD, flat TV that weight 125 lbs from amazon and it shipped for $60 using a special frieght company that even brought it into my house and helped me take it out of the packaging and put it in place (it is VERY heavy).   They may have some special deal though.

Mmmmmm I think it sounds right. Those things are HEAVY. And they come in extra large boxes with lots of styrofoam padding.

Thanks, everyone for the replies!  This is an awesome forum.  I decided to contact Betson Distributing, to check out how much it would cost to ship the Betson Imperial 27" that was reviewed in retroblast.  Betson seems to be geared much more toward dealing with businesses, but the sales cat said it would cost around $100 to ship.  He didn't have an exact figure, but he'll be contacting me to let me know the exact amount.

So, I think I'll be getting one from Betson, cause I didn't win the raffle for the Wells G. over at retroblast.  :)

Thanks again-

Good choice.  You will have more options with the Kortek(betson) than the vision pro.

That's what I thought too, I liked that the Betson could display in 15khz, which, unless I'm mistaken, the Vision Pro wouldn't do.  I'm guessing the shipping company will show up with a semi, hopefully it's not a problem that I live on a cul de sac, and I have a wood bridge that spans a creek to get to my driveway...  I really hope they don't try driving over the bridge.  lol

As I said in my original post, I'm a newb, but been lurking a bit...  The project arcade book kind of got me off my butt to get started building a cab.  Which cab would you recommend building?  LuSiD's, or the ULTIMATE Arcade II?  I keep going back and forth between the two, as I like them both, but haven't seen either of them in RL.  I like LuSiD's, cause it looks like something you'd see everywhere in an arcade, but the Ultimate looks cool too.  I was planning on doing a similar panel to the one in the Project Arcade book.   Anyone have opinions on which way you'd go?
