has anyone personally had any experience having an arcade machine shipped to them? im looking at this cab in cali on ebay and he said he will crate it for 25$ but i have to arrange shipping. any idea what it would cost from cali to NJ?

$200 to $300 depending on carrier, size, and weight. Also it could be more door to door.

$25 to crate is a bargain. You risk he does a lousy job though and the cab gets damaged in shipment. The purpose of "crating" is to 1. make a container for the cab so it doesn't get damaged, and 2. it must be done in such a way that holds the cab in place, and upright. It has to withstand being picked up by forklifts and jostled around by careless shipping staff...
Find out what will be done for that $25. You wouldn't want what happend to this guy:

Try www.cratersandfreighters.com
They will pack and ship your machine plus they have many branch offices all over the country. I think they have a shipping calculator on their site.
Average a video game at 350 pounds weight.

thx for the info guys, looks like its not worth it for me to get it shipped. its only an empty cab but its a pretty rare one to find around here, i love those NeoGeo Candy cabinets.
although i found a capcom bowling game around here with a vertical screen i want to turn into a JAMMA shooter. plus ill have a trackball to put on my 2nd swap panel for my main MAME machine... now i just need to convince my mom not to kick me out cause i want to add ANOTHER arcade machine to the garage collection =p
