Title: Best fight game joystick and other questions.
Post by: ften on October 06, 2004, 11:32:45 pm
I'm building my first arcade cabinet and I was wondering what you all think is the best joystick if I will mainly be using it for fighting games. I'm looking for what ever joystick has about the same feel as a Street Fighters type joystick.
Also I was looking at different arcade parts websites and dreamarcades.com seems to be a lot cheaper, monetarily wise, then happcontrols.com. Is there a big difference in the quality of their joysticks?
Finally has anyone tried out the Solid Steel joysticks that SlikStik.com sells, they look pretty sweet.

Thanks for any help,
Tom

I use Happ competition 8 ways on my fighter panel and they are great, easy to pull off combos, doesn't feel blocky, nice throw and spring tension.

I play alot of fighting games on my cab and I love the Happ Competition stick for the same reasons stated above, easy to hit diagonals great feel, really solid feeling.  Go with the competition.  ;D

That?s what I was going to go with, but I read a few reviews of the Happ P360 and just wondered what other fighting game players were using.

Thanks.

Well you really need to dive through these forums before starting another "which fighter joystick is the best".... however :)  I personally choose supers over competitions hands down because super joysticks use a circular base, similar to the perfect 360s.  In my opinion perfect 360s are the best joysticks due to response and overall feel, but because of their price I suggest the super joysticks.
Here's how I'd say judge which joystick to get:  do you prefer to know exactly where on the joystick you are, or do you feel comfortable enough to know where all teh corners are already.
if you want a review by Oscar : http://www.oscarcontrols.com/joycompare/joyreview1.shtml  for super/ultimate/competition
http://www.oscarcontrols.com/joycompare/joyreview2.shtml  for perfect360/super
he grades competition better because super 4-way sucks, and thats true, but honestly if you want a circular base go for super, if you like the feel of diagonals go for competition.

The Happs Competition, Super and P360's are all great sticks. Avoid the Happs Ultimate.

I don't know about DreamArcades stuff, it looks a little too cheap, but if you gotta save the bucks, they might do the trick.

Personally, I have P360's and they rock. They're worth the money, but try to catch them on sale. =)

Let me start of by saying, our joysticks are not cheap, they are very good quality.
That being said the Perfect 360

Our joysticks parts are even interchangeable with the Happs supper.

Mmmmm.  A Happs supper.  Probably tastes kinda "gamey".  ;D
