It seems I've got several monitor 'projects' going on at the moment. Here's another...
I have a G07 that seems to have a shorted horizontal output transitor. Is it very likely that the flyback transformer is toasted as well? Looking at the flyback, I don't see any cracks or burns, but it is covered in dirt.
I ask since I'm trying to determine if I should just order Bob Robert's $28 G07 rebuild kit for a monitor that has moderate screen burn. A $5 HOT sounds like a reasonable investment for this project, but $28 might be a waste.

I faced the same problems with 2 G07's. I know they're claimed to be the best/longest lasting when fitted with new parts, but I decided to simply sell the chassis as is and get about $20 for them each on ebay. I then bought 8liners chassis to replace them and they gave me much more geometry controls and no hum bars and sync issues with newer boards like the G07's have done.
So I figured $34 shipped from Bob for a fix-it kit, or sell them as-is and make $20 each and buy a 8liners for $72 shipped... net cost difference between the two options: $72-20-34 = $18 more than Bob's option for a complete new monitor. That $18 covers the time involved in fixing up the old one to desoldering tons of parts hoping that will fix things.
From what I've read; if the hot it bad the flyback probably is too, and vise-versa. Replacing one may fry the opposite new one. But I've avoided working on anything beyond cap kits and pot replacements.
No, the replacement chassis are not perfect but for home use and the versatility in them (swapping in tv tubes/yokes) for me, anyway, outweigh the value of a 25 year old G07 board with limted ranges and geometry controls.

If the flyback is an original one then it more than likely is shot. If it has been replaced before it's probably ok. The replacement flybacks are much superior to the originals.

I've had great success rebuilding a G07 with Bobs kit. I bought it when he was running a special sale flyback+hot. I forgot what I paid for it though, was a couple years ago.
