Title: Is this monitor toast??
Post by: clanggedin on October 06, 2004, 06:14:21 pm
I recently purchased a cab with a G07 inside. When I inspected the back of the monitor I noticed that the glass on the back (vacuum tube?) where that pot connects to, is cracked. I can actually remove the section where the wires are sticking out.  When I turn on the cab this area crackles with electricity, but nothing else happens. I see caps kits available, but I've never seen this part available for sale. If the monitor is toast should I just sell it for parts on ebay? The chassis must work somewhat becuase it's transferring power to this tube thing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If the glass neck of the picture tube is cracked or broken then the picture tube is shot. A new picture tube can be installed but it's pricey. Your best bet is to sell it on ebay as a parts monitor.

Or you can also, if you or a friend have enough knowledge, simply swap in a new tube from any old 19" television set . But definitely not for the inexperienced.

However your chassis is probably fried as well. Just because there is power doesn't mean it works. The flyback may be fried as well as numerous components requiring replacement of the parts or a new board(chassis).

As ken stated, perhaps the best bet is to sell the chassis and the yoke off the tube (the wire windings) on ebay and then get a new monitor or build one from 8liners with a donor tube.
