Questions, comments, suggestions welcome... :)

Do you have an image with your button layout?
-G
-
Yeah... something like this
-
I like the simplicity of it. :)
I don't know how this would work but I'll just throw it out there...
If you're going to have a glowing red trackball you don't really need the gradient behind the kanji. That thing will glow just fine on it's own. ;D
I like the idea of the Kanji but maybe make it bigger, red and move it or the trackball to the center of the kanji.
Make the Akuma and Ryu Bigger. It just seems that the MAME has more priority than the characters. If that's the way you want it cool. Personally I would lose the MAME in the background. Something makes me think you're more of a SF fan than a MAME fan. ;)

Ok... here's another variation, without button layout. :)
*edit* After looking at this, I think I should push the Kanji layer to the back, so it is behind the characters, not in front.
-
With button/joy/trackball layout...
-
Ya you could move the Kanji to the back and then add the red glow in behind that...
Maybe add a red outline around the outer edges to frame it in?
-
I like it. Are all your buttons really yellow? Or is that just place holders?
I think you may want to rethink the layout of your 3 buttons with the trackball. I see you're trying to fit with the kanji but I don't know that that will be comfortable.

I think the last one looks best. Good idea to drop the MAME logo, it was kind of distracting.
-
Yeah, I agree now that I look at them both.
No, buttons aren't yellow, I just used those as a place holder. The buttons I have right now are black, but I am considering switching to red to kind of unify the CP. What do you guys think?
I'm gonna make a cardboard up with the Kanji to find a comfortable layout for the trackball buttons.
-
Great idea with the cardboard up. I did that for my trackball panel. Really gives you an idea of how everything fits.
And on the buttons I think Red or Blue would work here. I like it a lot. I think it's gonna look pretty cool all huge.

Ooh... blue, I didn't even think of that. That would look good... hmmm... :)

That second CPO looks great! Agree, the blue buttons would probably look best...
-
One more variation I am considering... what do you think? :D
-
I like the last one. Are you using Photoshop?
If so why not try using a filter to make Akumas logo pencilie(sorry didnt know what else to call it). The akuma logo looks too CLEAN while the characters are CLEAN but drawen with the Pencil effect.
I have no idea if what I wrote even makes sense for someone to read but thats my Idea..
-
Yeah, I'm using photoshop... I'll give it a whirl, see how it turns out :)
-
Forgot to clean the white arund ryu's bandana ;)
Otherwise looks good but kinda plain..you might wanna play around with filters and come up with a better background or something, make the raging demon logo red with black borders and blur it a little.
Just some suggestions 8)

Another fun thing to dowould be to make some fun graphics around the buttons and joystick to make the controls stand out a bit. Here's a very rough idea of what I'm talking about:

ok... here is another version, lol :P
-
Ahhhh there it goes, now its starting to turn into a good looking cp overlay! I really like the shadowed characters in the back. I think Motorfish is right in that you need a focal point around the controls, instead of the characters, like he does with his cp's *which rock btw* Definitely not yellow, but some kind of border-style would look great on this cp.
-
Looks good. If your going to do a boarder I would use the Transulsent white the you use in Akumas Logo. I think Yellow would be way to bright.
-
Not to be a pain but you left a gap behind Ryu's neck. Sorry a detail that might have just been overlooked. :) Other than that I would say your CP is coming along nicely. Keep it up.

Hehe... I fixed the gap... will post a new pic once I get the borders around the controls, similar to Motorfish's work. :)
Thanks for all the comments/suggestions, they have really been helpful! :)

Lookin pretty slick. I like the shadowed characters. I think that translucent white would look good around the buttons. One thing though if youre thinking about blue or red buttons, I know the Happ competitions are going to be a much brighter blue or red than the colors you're using. It will be easy to coordinate but just wanted to point that out. ;)
Very cool 8)
-
Ok... how does this look?
-
close up for detail
-
Looks pretty good. The arrows seem a little big. I think you should use the actual company logo's. I know there's an illustrator file with both of them in it. I've got it if you can't find it. Let me know.
-G

First let me say the controls seem low on the CP to me. That is something that happens to be a matter of preference so if it is comforitable for you then ignore what I just said! :) I also have both .ai images for the Capcom and SNK logo's if you want them. These are converted to jpeg to post. If you want the complete arcade logo art file it is at http://www.localarcade.com/arcade_art/index.php

Ok... due to popular demand... :D
Seriously, though, which looks better, the right surround or the left surround. I'm leaning towards the right myself.

Take the player 2 design on the right and change the company logos to there original color and post a pic. I think that will look the best overall. Could just be me but the yellow around the joystick doesn't go with your cp overlay at all.
-
I like the one on the right... but make it transparent somewhat
-
Ok... what about now? :P
-
Looks good. Have you decided on button color?
-G
-
Yeah... I think I am going to go with blue. I like the way that will look when its done.
-
What about your trackball and buttons?
-G
-
this is hot

Hehe... thanks :)
I think I may switch to a lighted translucent blue trackball now... red just wouldn't fit. The trackball is going to be in the center of the kanji, not sure about the button layout for the trackball just yet. I need to print out the kanji, tape it to some cardboard, and due some test layouts for the buttons for optimum performance/comfort.
-
If it will fit you might want to think about having it just under the kanji. Like where sabertooth's hand is. Just a thought...

Are these vectorized? If so... you are a god among men. If not, you're just a legend.

No... I wish these were vectorized. :P Thanks for the compliment, though. Only the Kanji and the control surrounds are vectorized. :)
