360 owners here is what you can do.
Build 4-way along with your 360 (setup as 8-way mode)
or
Build 8-way along with your 360 (setup as 4-way)
or
Build a Q-Bert/Congo Bongo (Diagonal) joystick along with your
360 (this was my purpose)
What you need.
1. Tools- Hacksaw, screwdriver, Drill, Hole Maker
2. a 360 Joystick (of course)
3. an extra Wico/Happ LEAF STYLE BASE only.
4. Creative Mind
Ok...
Here is the picture of the WICO/HAPP base LEAF STYLE.

now take DRILL OFF or HACK OFF the feet where the screws goes. and create NEW HOLES (this is for Q-Bert/Diagonals only) if not using DIAGONAL then you neec to CUT OFF the feet and not DRILL it OFF like I did. Then you need to make the CENTER hole bigger, it does not matter what size hole, just bigger..
the NUMBERS are the original DRILLED OFF holes
the letters are the NEW HOLES I made so it will be installed DIAGONALLY.
-
how to make NEW HOLES, this is for DIAGONAL setup only.
Take an extra BASE just like the first one and match it together and match it up. Then REVERSE your first one MATCHING it up but now you see the the original HOLEs are not match up. Reverse it looking at the second one, use a PEN or the DRILL and using the holes as a guideline, when this is done you will see your mark for the new holes on your first base.
Here is a pic of the 2 together. The target base on TOP matching along with the other on the bottom.
-
here are the two again but this time I reversed the TOP target and line it up with the second one.
-
now....you need to create the ACTUATOR. Taking an extra actuator from your old WICO/HAPP leaf style joytick, cut it to size and put a slit thru it. One from each opposite and small slit in fron. Take a look at the E-clip so you know where the slits should be (here is the part about using the Creative Mind) :).
Here is a pic.
its a small item so I tried to get a good pic.
UPDATE...I posted below that this piece is no longer needed for I found a LONGER SHAFT so it reaches. See below for the pic.

Here is a shot where the adapter actuator installed in the 360.
-
here is a shot of the base installed on the 360.
My purpose was for a DIAGONAL setup.
To screw this base into the 360, all you need is to take off 2 screws from the 360 across from its other or take all 4 out if you want. Then put the Leaf BASE on top of the 360 base and use the same screw, it will reach no problem.
-
here is the SHOT with half of leaf off for better pic.
Now for the people who does not want to make it diagonal, first as mentioned, you don't need to make NEW HOLES, just use the same one but the FEET from the BASE must be cut off.
-
Can you take some better pictures?? 1. They are too small. 2. They are too blurry.
Hint: To avoid a blurry picture, don't hold the camera right up against the object. Just hold it back and zoom in instead.
-
I thik those pic are good except for the ACTUATOR shot....I had bigger pictures but you ronly alowed 250kbytes so I srank them to 240x240.
-
i think its an interesting approach..
do you have those leaf switches on the same inputs as that joystick or are they on separate inputs? it doesnt look like you can switch easily between the two. also, how well does that actuator hold? it doesnt look like the e-clip has that much to hold on to..
-
Having messed with the Wico's and P360's trying allsorts of things your pictures and descriptions make perfect sense. Really nice hack.
Do you have your leaf switches hooked up to another input other than where your P360's go? Or do you have a switch on their GND to enable/disable them?
Do you find this more easier then configuring mame for just the diagnols?
-
since I'm using it for Q-bert (Diagonal Games) it has separate inputs, I only have a 2-player CP w/an Ipac-4 so plenty of input availables.
I know that you can setup mame for diagonals as UP NOT LEFT NOT RIGHT etc... but I prefer it this way. It is surely that I will move diagonally and hit it the first time and not trying to center it with the 8-way corner.

That actuator is in there good. Actuator are HARD PLASTICS. The E-clip is not atually holding it, the adapter in place, its clip to the 360 as originally and that adapter is not coming off and it don't woble iether.

I found a RED ball top SHAFT and its longer than the default BAT shaft that came with the 360 and this ones reaches more so the plastic piece that I attch to the bottom of the 360 is now not needed. Here is a pic of it installed.
