Title: How do you apply/install a ROM update disc?
Post by: sonicflood on September 30, 2004, 10:58:27 pm
I currently have ROMs in version .084 and was considering getting an update to .087 from a ROM burner.  What exactly is updated and how do you install it?  Is it just a matter of replacing the previous files with the newer ones or is there some other method?

Thanks for the assistance.

You just dump the whole lot in the rom folder and click Yes To All when it asks you if you wish to replace the current file with a new file.  After this is done you may want to select all the roms, right click and choose properties and then make sure they are not set to Read-only (makes it difficult to manage later on using rom managers when they are set to read only).

Cheers

that will work if they replace the whole rom.  some zipped roms have internal rom changes and may require a rom utility to correct zip file sand what not.  it all depends on how they are sent.  different for every burner

Some updates are just an update formt he last version, so it just has changes from previous version, IE .86 in this case.

No, no, no no!  You *never* want to do that.  A lot of burners will just send the updates that you need, and not the entire file.

If you're using ClrMAME to update, select your CD drive as an addpath, and it'll pull the updates off the CD and fix your sets.
