A friend is looking into building an arcade control panel (no cabinet) and was looking at the x-arcade joystick and button bundle that they sell for $20.

He was asking if this is a good deal. I bought T-Stiks and Happ buttons for my project and have recommended that to others. Who makes the parts that x-arcade sells and are they any good? The price sure seems pretty good, but only if the product is good as well.

they are clones of happ supers and buttons. the microswitches are more clicky than the ones you get with happs, but the quality of construction is pretty good and you get a lifetime guarantee on your parts. if you are happy with only black, (although the sets i got included p1 and p2 starts), you cant beat the x-arcade deal.

The price is right, but I was not that impressed with the buttons & stick in a single player x-arcade controller I had. Your T-sticks & Happ buttons are quite noticably better. If I were going to invest the time into building a control panel, I'd spring the extra $20 or so for some better sticks.

I use X-Arcade Buttons some times. For their price they are good, but not quite as good as the HAPP buttons. And their microswitches are louder than the cherry ones that come with the HAPP. I don't even bother with the X-Arcade joysticks since I don't like them and I buy the HAPP competition sticks in packs of 20 for about a dollar more a stick including shipping. Some times you can find a small set of 1-2 happ competitions or ultimates on ebay for 10-15 dollars and I would definently recomend them over the X-Arcade joysticks.

If price is the driving factor, the X-arcade stuff is a good deal.
If playability is the factor, there are better options for more money.
The T-stiks are a great all-around option, and their mode switching would make them my stick of choice if I were limited to only one set of sticks.
I personally opted for a modular system that would allow me to swap the T-stiks out for Wico 8-ways or 4-ways, for games where the Wicos feel better to me.
It also allows me to swap out for dual Tron sticks, dual Joust sticks, a defender setup, buttons only, etc... for different games.

They suck suck suck.
They'll work, but they're not arcade quality.
Seriously.
My buddy had them in his old CP. They were bad man. Bad news. Okay, not THAT bad, but still, once we swapped them out for some goodies from Happs and Ultimarc it was SOOOOO much better.
