Hi all, I am tring to build mt first MAME cabinet and have a couple of small software problems. I have MAME 087b windows comand line version and arcadeOS. The computer boots into windows then stright into arcadeOS (arcadeOS is in my startup menu) and then runs the last game played as i would like, but I cant seem to access the select rom screen or arcadeOS without escaping out of mame into windows, then I can access arcadeOS from the taskbar, As I wanted windows to be invisible I need to be able to just exit the current game and go stright back to arcadeOS rom select screen..? Can anyone tell me where I am going worng..?

That's easy: you're using ArcadeOS from within Windows.
ArcadeOS was designed to be for DOS *only*. It will run under Windows 98, but as you've seen the window focus is anything but ArcadeOS when you exit a game.
You can either go with Pure DOS and DOS Mame, or go with MameWAH, which is similar in look to ArcadeOS.

Thankyou very much, i'll try that today.
What i really am after is an invisible windows so when I have finished playing can exit the progam and the machine shuts down..? Is there an easy way of doing this.?

Hi My system is set up like yours Windows 98 with Mane86 with Arcade OS frontend. I turn on my computer and arcadOs starts right up I play the games I want and when I am done i press player1 & player2 buttons to get back to the Arcade OS list of all games and when I want to shut down my computer I press player1 & player2 button (from the list of all your games in ArcadeOS) and the computer automatically shuts off. I never see windows at all. If you email me at ru4itim@rogers.com I will explain how I do this (I used fraggles bootcd & is just a matter of selecting shut down upon exit) I am wondering though if you could help me with my system which seams to be setup same as yours but I have no sound (just in windows)
