i've seen it mentioned that you could run neo geo games at full speed on a 500 mhz machine using mame 55. since i'll be using an p3 800 in my cabinet i figured i'd check it out. so far messing around with it on my laptop (1.2 ghz celeron) the best i've been able to get is 35/60 on the couple of neo geo games i've tried. what kind of settings do i need to use to increase speed.
thanks

Have you tried fastmame?

Have you read the mame help file?
In which a written requrement to run Mame.
When MAME55 released, the neogeo roms was not fully updated and were use as they were in neogeo emulator.
I know that 500 mhz with 128Mb RAM are enough to run these games. You have to be carefull because speed of any game require a hardware to be fully emulate.Fastmame is an emulator which is desingn for such type of metters.

Are you testing DOS Mame or Mame32 on that laptop? I would imagine that DOS Mame would give you better performance with v0.55.
I've found that Mame32 needs to have its settings tweaked on almost every computer I put it on, depending on what version of Windows and what video card its using. I have a 500Mhz Celeron laptop with Mame32 v0.72 running classic games, I'll try some NeoGeo's when I get home and see how it goes.

i tried fastmame and it's almost perfect. one of the conditions i have on getting to put the arcade cabinet in the house is ms pac man. specifically the fast ms pac man. i tried enabling the cheat.dat but fastmame has a 2x speed increase instead of the spead hack that regular mame had. is there any way to add the speed hack to fastmame?
i read through the faq and .txt files and the only mention of speed i could find was a 700 w/ 128 megs of ram.
i haven't tried out the dos or 32 versions of mame yet. from browsing the boards it seemed like a general consensus was that mame 55 was the way to go for older/slower machines. i think it was peale or paigeoliver who said you could run the neo geo games full speed on a 500 with it. when i tried it out i still couldn't get 60/60 so i figured i'd ask to see if there was some setting i was missing.
