What is this strange piece of wood attatched to the top of my cabinet?
The front has a 45 degree angle on it, and it's held on by glue and screws.
This is from my Assault cab.

Any idea?

Without knowing what's on the inside, my guess would be that's there as some sort of mounting brace, it's involved with shipping, or it has absolutely no purpose :p
-
Is there a vent under it?
-
It's kind of like the tags on couches. If you pull it, they will come for you. ;D
-
No vents, nothing underneath it.
Its just a block of wood gued to the top.
It doesn't have "do not remove under penalty of law" written on it, but one can never be too careful... ;)

It's for when you use a dolly on it, you grab onto it to tilt the game for transport.
(Much easier than trying to reach the front edge of the cab.)

It is indeed a hand hold for grabbing when you tip the game back onto a hand truck. You can also drape the power cord around it.

is that where I left that thing? Sorry man.

Now *that* is funny....
Thank you for making me laugh at the end of a very long week.

It's something you see on more older machines than newer machines. Newer machines usually have slots instead of those grabby things which kinda suck.
Either way, it's better than the phone-a-friend "ok give it to me on 1..2..3!"
