Title: how to wire joysticks/buttons for cocktail mode
Post by: rchadd on September 24, 2004, 07:52:01 am
this might be a stupid question....but i'll ask it anyway  ;)

i have nearly finished my cocktail cab and now wondering how to wire up the CPs to my IPac2 - i have CPs on both the vertical and horizontal sides of the cab.

clearly for horizontal side (side by side games) both joys should be wired to joy1 and joy2 connections on the IPac.

but i am wondering about the joys on the vertical sides (face to face games). cocktail games used to have alternating play between P1 and P2. Isn;t this just flipping the screen? internally doesn't mame consider both P1 and P2 joys to be the same one? therefore should i wire both joys to joy1 connection on the IPac?

Would really appreciate advice from other cocktailers that are using IPac2. how did you do it?

cheers

true coctail mode settings are made in a DIP SW in the PCB board so they use 2 joysticks. Think about if its only one, while the other player watches that you are so close on beating him to his score then he moves the joystick in front of him so you get screwed  :D (unless you tell him not to MOVE it)

In the real arcade, the joysticks are separate.

If I were to tell my friends not to move it, they would move it for sure.  If you wanted to put one over on them though, wire them both for player 1 but put a switch on your side to allow you to enable / disable the player 1 joystick used by your friend.  Disable his joystick while you play but move yours to mess him up when he plays.  Don't expect your friend to play with you anymore though...

I have just finished  building a cocktail cabinet using the I-PAC2, I have wired the player 1 buttons to player 1 on the I-PAC and the player 2 buttons to player 2 on the I-PAC. The I-PAC2 uses the default player keys in MAME. I just pluged it in, wired it up and it worked. The screen flips automatically when you set it for cocktail mode with the dipswitches.

Hope this is helpfull...
