Title: Defender Cab - Free in MA
Post by: GearHead on September 24, 2004, 12:52:07 am
If anyone's interested in a Defender cabinet let me know.  It's in so-so shape but I'd thought I'd offer it up before I take a saw to it and toss it.

Cabinet has been painted over.  One side's paint has been stripped a bit to reveal the Defender art work.  No coin door, back or control panel.  Monitor's still in there but I have no idea if it works.  Interior has been stripped.  The cabinet's been around but could make a cheap MAME cabinet.

Located in Ashburnham, MA  which is near Leominster in northern, central Mass. Close the the NH border.

Man, I would kill for that.  And it's close.  But if I told my wife I was picking up yet *another* cabinet, I would be single by the end of the day.

No way I could hide it, either.

How close are you?  If you're as close as I am, I have no problem ceding this one to you.  I'm only like 45 minutes from there.  LMK... maybe I can help you out here.

Really?  Me too.  All I wanted was the monitor.  Is that something that interests either of you?

I'm in Concord, NH.  Not quite sure how far away Ashburnham is from me but he did say it was near the NH border...

I'm fairly certain that I can get some help when it comes to going and getting this thing but not 100%.

As for the monitor Peale, I don't realy have the patience to figure out hooking an arcade monitor up to a computer so if I infact do get this cab it's all yours.
Not quite sure how we'd work out getting the cab here and the monitor there though?  BTW, did you get my paypal and send the buttons yet?

I did get it.  It'll go out Monday.

As for the monitor, we'd meet in the middle, of course!

ChadTower, let me know if you're realy going to step down from this so I can know whether to persue it more relentlessly or not.  I have e-mailed Gearhead telling him that I'm unsure of whether or not you or I will be getting the cab, if he even still has it of course...

Yeah, I'm going to have to bow out.  I just can't get up there in the next couple of days and while I'd love to restore it, I still have that Tank II to do.

Gearhead, feel free to shoot him the info.

Crashwg - PM sent

Come and get it! I've been kick out of my friend's garage and this has to go soon.  I'll be glad that this is going to a good home and not the dump.

Concord to Ashburnham... about an hour+   I was just in Manchester today...  wish I had known before I left the house.

Big thanks to Gearhead for this, and to Crashwg for the monitor.  It works, but needs a lot of work.

So is it destroyed, then?

What?  No, the cab was in a garage.

Cool.  When I was going to go get it it was not inside, it was to be outside with a tarp on it.  That's why I asked.

Hey all, I probably should give some sort of comment shouldn't I...

The cab is as described, in fair condition.  It's going to take some TLC to get it looking as good as I'd like, including a complete strip/sanding some bondoing of holes added for clasps and closures.  It needs a couple of boards replaced including the very top one (sags 1" in the middle) the board that holds the plexi up (has a notch cut out of it for some reason) and the back door (non existant).

After that, it'll get primed and painted.  Then the part that I haven't quite figured out yet...  I wan't to make my own custom defender sideart stencils.  I'm thinking that I can edit the illustrator drawings to show only one color at a time and then covert that to outlines print it out on what will probably be like 30 pieces of paper transfer it to something thick (don't know what yet, maybe some linoleum flooring), cut that out and voila!

It'll probably be a while before I even start on this cab though, so don't hold your breath waiting for updates!

[edit]
I couldn't help myself!  I went down to the hardware store and got some spray-on paint stripper and some belts for my belt sander.  Click here(no link yet) to see my progress!
