Title: I-PAC Troubleshooting
Post by: Brax on September 08, 2002, 07:17:19 am
Well I got my shiney new I-PAC all hooked up. I seem to have a few problems with the buttons.

I'm not exactly sure where to start, it could be anything.

I'm using the ps/2 connection (i COULD use usb) and I've also wired up db-25 connectors to be able to disconnect the I-PAC from the control panel. I'm using the standard default key settings as well.

Player two fire buttons 5 and 6 don't work. Also player 2 joystick down works but it also brings up the mame menu?!

Does this sound familiar? I couldn't seem to get that ctrl-alt-p thingie to work. Which trouble shooting program should I download from Ultimarc?

Sounds like you have a short somewhere. Can you open Notepad and see what happens?

If there's a short you should get characters appearing in Notepad.

notepad appears to be fine. All the keys that should show (numbers and letters) , do. All the proper ones too.

And the 3 keys that I'm having trouble with all use letters and they show fine. but i agree still seems like a short. is it possible theres a problem with the i-pac?

Have you checked that the buttons are correctly mapped in MAME? I found that some buttons in some games weren't mapped properly.

worth a try, that may fix the fire buttons but the joystick menu thing still eludes me.

I'll let you know you it goes

ok, i feel stupid. It was all Mame configuration!

It works PERFECT now!

Hmm, now I need a friend to come over and play the player 2 slot!!!!   ;D

I was super careful with all the connections so I could avoid problems like this. I just didn't understand what was wrong! I'm not real big on electronics so i figured for sure that was the weakest link! Thanks so much for the help Bursar!

No problem. Like you I took my time with the wiring to make sure I got it right first time.

I was trying to play SF II, and buttons 5 and 6 didn't do anything. I checked all my wiring again, and finally looked in MAME and found they weren't mapped. D'oh!

Glad you got it sorted.
