Ok just upgraded my MAME and roms from .67 to .86 (yea I know, its been awhile since then!) And all is well except my favorite game Galaga (fast shoot) seems to be missing?! Anyone know if its been renamed, or how I can get it back?? Thanks!
-
lots of change since then. Some need no ROMS some HACKS been removed. So check your error message whats its says. If it says, game not supported, then its been removed. The FIX, use your old version :) or add it in the new one.
-
OR - get cheat.dat and enable that cheat. That's all it ever was, anyhow.
-
where do I get the latest cheat.dat file from? I can't seem to locate a recent copy of it. Thanks!
-
http://cheat.retrogames.com/
First link in a Google search. It doesn't get updated often.
-
Yea I have been there, but thought there may be a newer one somewhere as this one seems to be a few versions old. I will get it though. Thanks!
-
Ok so I found the cheat.dat file and installed and it works like it is supposed to. Now if I enable the "fast shoot" cheat, it works. My final question is, how do I force galaga to load with the fast shoot cheat turned on by default? If I exit the game and come back into it, the cheat is turned back off. Is there a way to tell galaga to always load that cheat? Thanks so much!

anyone?

I don't that will do what you want. You always need to enable it by TAB. If you want to run it in FAST SHOOT here is the only 3 options you have.
1. Use Cheat and enable it everytime.
2. Use the old version you have
3. Find the Fast Shoot ROM (you probably have it already) and rename it GALAGA and run it (you will just a message saying that CRC/SHA1 is wrong but it will load and run).
or
Forgot to say, you can come and play it in my CAB ;D
I have it running in an old version.
-
Oh well, I guess I will just have to get used to playing it at normal speed. Its just that when I used to play it as a kid, I could have sworn it was a fast-shoot cabinet. Did they use to mod Galaga frequently to enable this? I could be wrong, but I am almost sure the one I used to play was fast-shoot.

it was a HACK thats why is remove now. They are getting rid of HACKS, so if you want like I said, rename your galagafs.zip to galaga and run galaga and that will do it (if it complains about missing files, get the files from the original galaga.zip and put it in the NEW GALAGA.ZIP (galagafs.zip)).
-
Well, I replaced the original galaga.zip file with the newly modified galagads.zip file (renamed to galaga.zip) and it worked great! Thanks for the suggestion!
-
I guess you aint coimg to play it in my cab....and I guess you aint gonna play the original slow one too now :)
-
I will still come play it on your cab if you are buying the beer!

I tried this, but it didn't work. I am running Mamewah 1.51, and after renaming the galagads.zip file to galaga.zip, the game doesn't launch at all. It just stays in the game list screen in mamewah.
The galagads.zip file works with older version of mame, but doesn't seem to work when I rename it galaga.zip within mame .83 (version I am running).
Am I missing something?

Am I missing something?
Parent ROMs?

Scoobie, take all the files currently in galaga.zip and paste them into galagads.zip. Then rename galagads.zip to galaga.zip and you are good to go. Worked perfectly for me!

Well, I did just this...but the game still plays at normal (slow) speed.
I copied all the files from galaga.zip and pasted them into galagads.zip. Now I have all the files from both galaga.zip and galagads.zip in the galagads.zip folder. I then renamed this folder to galaga.zip. I then launched mamewah and launched galaga (the galaga.zip rom). The game still plays at the normal (still slow) speed.
Now that I have the parent roms and the "ds" roms, what am I missing here?
-
you shuld do it this way.
Your have 2 files
Galaga.zip
galagads.zip
take galagads and put all the ziles in galaga.zip overwriting some of the files that are identical.
-
I realize this must seem pretty pathetic, but it is just not taking. I did just as you suggested, but the game still plays at normal speed.
Something else to note, is that you can't just copy and paste files from one zip folder to another. I had to move the files within each zip folder to another folder, then zip the hole thing (now including the files from galaga.zip and galagads.zip).
Anyone else have this problem?

I guess it depends on what program you use to manage ZIP files. I use WinRAR, no issues. Drap-and-drop between windows, no worries.
-
I'm using WinRAR as well. Now I'm really confused.
Can someone post a list of all the files that should be in the galaga.zip folder (including those needed to run the fast shoot hack)? I think I have all the files, but maybe I don't. ???
