Title: Trackball: Which End Up?
Post by: Trimoor on September 20, 2004, 01:36:44 am
Which way do I mount my Imperial trackball?
Please tell me the letter that would point towards the monitor.

Thanks!

I can tell you for sure it's not A or D!

I don't have that particular ball, but on the two that I do have there's writing on the lip of the top half of the case...  If you have writing on your's, you want to be able to read the writing whilst looking in the same direction that you would the monitor.

I can't see as it matters, as long as you wire it up suitably bearing in mind the way you mount it.  (Of course not A or D as crash said).

I have at least one of mine mounted with E as being the point towards the monitor and have zero probs in the trackball dept.

The standard is B (rollers on bottom and right), but C, E, & F all can work with either swapping wires from their standards, or remapping in mame (but then TB won't work well in windows).

B and F are best for tilted CPs, and games like Marble Madness where most rolling is downward.

C & E, OTOH, are okay with flatter CPs.  I'd guess they are also better for GoldenTee or other all upward games (if CP it's tilted too much), but my (quick & not messured) tests didn't show noticable differences.  -edit- And most GT cabs follow the standard ("B").
