Did anyone attend the Starburst auction in Toronto on Saturday September 18? Did anyone get prices?
-
I went and met GGKoul there--prices were ridiculously high for empty junk cabs (damn mamers) and normal to high for regular cabs. It's hard bidding against guys who buy and sell cabinets for a living--one guy must have dropped well over 5 grand and bid on EVERY single game/table/kiddie car ride thereby driving the prices way up. I doubt I will be going to anymore until he has had his fill.

Menace,
That pimply faced Indian guy? Dident you just want to punch him in the face. What an ass. He was totally bidding everything up. Sure he won a bunch of stuff, but he totally overpaid.
I think he has some sort of operation because I overheard him talking to one of the starburst guys after about getting a good dolly.
Anyways. I scored that first dynamo foosball for 125$ so I was happy. Sure it needs a few men and it could do without the wood veneer, but I considered it one of the better deals of the day.
That Chexx Hockey (second one with the Blue base) was the same one that was at last auction, only it went for 150$ more, just goes to show you how expensive things were.
Its odd because my brother came with me and I pretty much assured him that he should be able to score something decent for 150-175$ (like a SFII). I remember watching NFL Blitz games go for 250$ just a few auctions ago, now they are double.

actually i was talking about a guy we refer to as "fonzie" since if he has a collar it will undoubtedly be turned up. (and yes i would like to punch him in the face--how can you want every single game??) I saw him table talking with a dealer so I'm thinking he's a shill but GGkoul says he's legit so who knows...
I brought a new guy with me as well and he was pretty bummed on how much stuff went for. i just wanted an empty cab with a 25" tube and the cheapest was like 175$ and if i would have kept bidding it would have been at least another $50 more.

If he won what he was bidding on, he's not a shill (or at least a very good one). The job of the shill is to bump the bidding up, but not actually win anything.

I'm sorry to hear that. Didn't they have 2 or 3 "junkers" (usually the first ones to go up for bid, in building 2). That's where I picked up mine for $50.
Chances are that guy you're talking about was bidding on his own stuff. It's not just rumour, there ARE shill bidders at Starburst auctions.
The best way to confirm this to you is to go to the very next auction. If you see lots of the same machines, well, there's confirmation.
"Fat gray-haired pony-tail man" is the one shiller many of us are already aware of.

Wow, I was thinking of going, but it was in the west end an I'm in the east. Leaving the house at 8:30 on a Saturday isn't my idea of a good time.
Now I'm really glad I didn't go!!! I'm guessing all you guys are going to the game room show? Do I have to pre-buy tickets or can I get them at the door?
Thanks,
Barranger

I Know who you are talking about (pony tail guy). Im not too sure hes a shill, but he certainly bids on alot of stuff.
My major beef with the thing is not starting on time. What gives with the guy showing up at 11:15 and standing around with his thumb up his ass still 12:00.
Im not so sure that the auction time is supposed to be 11:00 , all I know is they keep starting later and later and then (if your like me and just brought a car) its hard as hell to get transportation because they try to close everything up by 3:00...
Anyways. Ive got to go pickup that foodball machine this week. What time are they open for during the week for auction picksups? I hope you can pickup next saturday otherwise I am in some trouble..

5 i think, but don't quote me on that. if you can't get it till next saturday you have to pay an extra 25$--that sucks :-\

Here's the e-mail I got about starting times
Dear Barranger,
Our next auction is this Saturday Sept 18, 2004. We open at 9:30 am for preview and the actual auction begins at 11:30am. At the auction we require a $200 deposit for a bidding card which is put towards your purchase or refunded if you do not buy anything. Usually in our auctions there is 120-150 games, parts and cabinets. Any other questions please let me know. Thank you.
