Title: New Jukebox Project
Post by: Walkinshaw on September 19, 2004, 03:04:07 am
Hey Guys,

Just thought I would share this. I have built a Mame cabinet and now almost a Jukebox and I've never posted anything. Some people might be interested =), Me, I just like looking at other peoples projects (pictures) so some of you might too.

There is still a little to go on this and I'll be posting some more pictures soon. I decided on a stand up small Jukebox to help out when we have family or friends over. Nothing like your own standalone Jukebox.

My plans are simple. Work with what you have got. This project will cost me a little over $200 AUD so its not bad on the wallet. The stuff I have used was mine to begin with and it's basically a House stereo unit with a PC attached and it will be running Wincab. Everything will be controlled from one Keypad which is just the way I liked it.

The missing hole up the top will house the stereo amplifier and the 2 speaker holes will have 8 inch subs. I have a CRT currently, but I expect to have an LCD in there in a few weeks. Perks of the job working for an LCD distributor I guess ;-).

Will post some more later, when I have the amplifier and other speakers inside. The bass in this thing rocks. My volume unit has a max scale of 10 and this thing is too loud on 3 =) Very happy with the results.

that keypad is crazy.  I dont think Ive ever seen one like that.  with just some of the numbers or some of the letters.  how is that going to work with the juke are you going to have to program the song numbers to what you have on the keypad?  Its looking good so far, another nice Juke.

I just wanted an easy solution to control the Jukebox. The one keypad which is basically a standard keypad with extra keys for lettering placed on it. I got these keys off a keyboard that has the same button colours and design as the keypad. I have mapped the keys within wincab and its so easy to use.

I have win98 loading right into wincab, I can scroll pages, pause, random, skip, exit and insert credits or select any song from a combo of letters and numbers. Wincab makes it so much easier. The other good point is if I exit to windows I can use the keypad to just move the icon to an icon on the desktop that I have setup to shutdown automatically. The keypad in windows works the exact same way as normal, so as long as you remember where the arrow keys were then its all good =)

There's a saying: "...if it's too loud, you're too old!"
-from the movie 'Airheads' ;D .

I think that saying was around a little before the groundbreaking classic movie,  Airheads.

BTW, Walkinshaw, great juke.  Between you & June, I've gotta change my plans and do a juke next instead of another cab.  :)

I thought the same when my mate asked me to build a mame cabinet for him but I decided to be selfish and from seeing what June had done I had plans to build my own simple Juke.

I have some good ideas still to come for this Juke and its no where near what its going to look like. Illl post some more pictures soon but its going to look sweet =)

As for my cabinet, I did build a first one based off a few ideas from this board and some help from some regular members. I am planning to post my images but for now I will wet some appetites and post a few shots. I am really pleased with the way it turned out.
