I am painting my cabinet black and am wondering if it is even necessary to use primer on the parts that will only be on the inside of the cabinet..
I just plan on using one coat of black on those parts too
I assume this will look ok since you wont see those parts much anyways?

No primer is required.

I prime and paint every inch of my cabs, inside and out, top and bottom, weather it is ever seen or not it will help to seal and protect the wood.
Dig it?

I painted the lower portion (below control panel) with grey primer & the upper portion (above control panel) flat black.
It makes it easier to see the components in the bottom of the cabinet.

My arcades are made from old ones
a roby robo cab
nintendo vs uni
and a old base ball arcade
all from old school arcades . Thay are not painted inside and have lasted 20+ years.

Some don't :)
It all depends on if you are in a regularly humid environment or not.

I used primer on the inside of the cabinet to seal the wood. I did not paint the inside, because paint is somewhat expensive while primer is dirt cheap so the less surface area you need to paint the better. I did 2 coats of primer on both the inside and outside of my cab.

I would always paint all exposed wood (esp. MDF / chipboard). Better safe than sorry in my book. I'd recommend a topcoat over primer too, in case anything ever gets spilled on it (primer will soak it up).
I painted the inside of mine light grey for the same reason as sonicflood, it makes it easier to see (it's pretty dark inside!): http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=18812
