I suppose I could figure this out with a simple test...
What happens when you shut the mode off of a sidewinder (mine came without intstructions). Does it turn into a regular game pad (i.e. not chainable) or is it OFF?
Here's my thought... I currently have 2 sidewinders as the interface for my cabinet. but I also have a cheapo PC wheel (which may or may not get get hacked into 360 degree mode) that is joystick based. I just had the thought that if I "shut off" the 2 sidewinders ... maybe I could plug the steering wheel into the 2nd sidewinder and the "off" sidewinders will act as a passthru? *shrug*
hmph...

This is going back about 4 years (in other words I haven't tried it out w/ the Sidewinders in my cabinet) but I used to have a 4 way joystick that I tried to plug into the Sidewinder so I wouldn't have to reach behind the computer to switch between the two. The joystick never worked, even with the mode switch off and the sidewinder deleted from the game input in Windows. I also tried buying a joystick splitter cable and plugging both the sidewinder and the 4 way in that--it didn't work either.

I dont know if this will help, but yesterday at Radio Shack I saw a gameport to USB adaptor. With that you could hook up the wheel and leave the sidewinders too. Maybe then you could use a joystick as a shift in games like Outrun. I dunno just a thought...
