Title: MiniArcade
Post by: atari2600chick on September 17, 2004, 06:54:13 pm
I am planning to build MiniArcade desktop machine. (EDITED: 11th October 2004 the mini arcade has been put on hold due to change of construction plans see later post in this thread). I have done a cardboard mockup and will be ordering the controllers etc for the project soon. I have already bought my wood supplies - 12mm/ 16mm MDF and am resisting the urge to start production until I receive all the required parts. I have put the plans for building an upright on hold due to lack of space.

I like the Bartop Arcade Compact Mame Machine and have used those plans as a starting point. The MiniArcade will have a 17" monitor, with a slide out draw at the back under monitor for pc maintenance. 2 player CP with 4/8 way joystick and 6 buttons. The CP will most likely be purple and I am considering having white t-moulding with a black cab... I'm not sure how that will look.... perhaps I will stick with black t-moulding on a black cab.

Check out this link for a concept picture....

I have also posted some questions about configuring the ipac and how many buttons needed in the main forum.

well I finally ordered all the stuff for the mini arcade today woo hoo!  ;D (I hope shipping doesnt take too long) I decided to go with the IPAC2 and t-stick plus, with happ buttons. The cost of shipping and $US to $ Oz conversion kinda hurt  >:( but its still cheepa than buying it all from Oz.

if it went surface it might be a while. if it went by air, even the economy class shouldnt be more than about ten days. hey, do you have any more pics of the project? and i like purple, you should go yurple!! purple cab with yellow t-molding  :)

You mentioned a sliding drawer, you might consider tilting the back of the monitor further down so that you can put the motherboard above it and then just make the whole back open like a door.  (photo from an ebay auction I saw, don't remember who owns it)

Colored t-molding always adds a nice pop to the appearance of a black arcade machine.

The work on the mini arcade has stopped...(hmmm maybe just put on hold  ;) one day I really would like a 1p miniarcade cabinet) as I have started building a full size upright. Check out the following link to see pics.

It seems like the miniarcade/ desktop arcade was going to be too big, 2 player panel and i wasnt sure how we could mount the monitor and 17" monitor with all the computer parts. It was almost going to be 70% of a fullsize cut off just below the control panel. So when my husband said to me that i should make an upright instead, I was  very happy coz that was my original desire to have a fullsize upright....  :)
