Title: T-Molding
Post by: dmish82 on September 17, 2004, 01:41:06 pm
hi,

I'm getting finished with my cabinet and I was going to cut out the grooves for t-molding.  Most sources I read say to use a router to cut the grooves but i don't have one. I was wondering what, if any, other tools could be used to cut these grooves?

thanks.

Also, where have some of you bought your T-molding from? I'd like to get it in either Red or Black.

It seems the router is really the only way to go. I have heard of people trying with rotary tools, and saint, I think, even mentioned trying such in the Project Arcade book, but it all comes down to just being plain difficult.

I fortunately had a friend with a router, so I borrowed his. Though the bit was still a purchase I'd rather not have had to make. Router bits are some seriously expensive little doo hickies. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw some of the prices on those things. I now HAVE to make more cabinets just to justify purchasing that darn thing. :)

[EDIT]

T-Molding I bought at a local woodwoorking shop for $10 /25'. It cost more than the online sources, but I am just too darn impatient to order online.

Borrow or rent a router.

You can get a bit from http://www.mclswoodworking.com for $16 SHIPPED.

I just bought some more T-Molding yesterday from http://t-molding.com.  I did a quick price comparison between t-molding.com, t-mold.com, and happscontrols.com and the best price (per foot + shipping etc...) was t-molding.com (they also have a great selection in different colors, sizes, and textures).

I was actually looking for some flat t-molding (black colored), but all I could find was white flat.  Does anyone know where to get the flat stuff?  I have an old battlezone cab that has some flat black stuff and I like the look of it and wouldn't mind getting some for my mame projects.
