Title: Anyone use Kazaa?
Post by: GameDork on September 17, 2004, 12:59:09 pm
Does anyone use this? How safe is it having ppl upload files from your computer?

Is there any better alternatives?

I use an old verison of Kazaa Lite.. So there is no spyware or popups.  But if you get Kazaa only, its full of spyware and popups.

And I can't complain about the product itself.  But finding a good clean verision of a song can take awhile, as there are some fakes that get placed on Kazaa and some people don't have a complete verision of the song on their shared directory.

So you may have to download and test a bunch of songs before you find a good verision of the song.  But this mainly applies to new "Top 40" Songs.

if youre just looking for a song or movie here and there, use WinMX. if youre looking to get into the warez scene, you must use bittorrent. go to www.torrentstorm.com to get the client, and then u go to www.suprnova.org, or any other torrent site to get the DLs... trust me its worth it

That really depends on what folders you share.  Some people have shared out their entire drives, with outlook PST folders, Quicken and Microsoft Money files, etc.  That is bad.

Oh, and I'd recommend eDonkey 2000/Overnet over Kazaa

I personally don't like Kazaa/P2P type apps. It's straight BitTorrent and IRC for me. ;D

I'd stay away from the bigger, public bittorrent sites (supernova, etc..).  Those seem like fertile picking ground for a new crop of lawsuits.

I don't need it for songs, I have Rhapsody. I can rip straight from it!! ;D ;D

I had rhapsody can you explain how you ripped songs from them.

I tried the playing the song and using Sound recorder to record the song but the sound quality sucked.  I also look on the net and at the time could not find anyother ways of saving songs.

Careful, this subject could get you banned :( .

why? File Sharing is perfectly legal. No one is talking about any copyrighted stuff.

The Rhapsody is a Streaming ( therefore, broadcasted music) its not illegal to record the radio is it?

MODS- If anything is unappropriate please omit it.

Rhapsody is not making use of publicly owned airwaves, they are very different than a radio or TV station. the legality of recording live broadcasts may not be the issue, as i am pretty sure that although you probably don't know about it, there is fine print somewhere that barrs such activity and you have voluntarily agreed to abide by when signing up for the service. on the other hand, who cares.....every person in this country wasn't supposed to dub themselves a copy of E.T. and College Girls #19 from their video rentals either.

I can vouch for shareaza it is pretty nice.  It will DL partials from people to help make the file.  And its seems a little faster.  Thanks for the info gamedork,  when i subscribe to rhapsody i'll try that out.  a Free streaming radio that is legal that i havent tried is p2p radio.  Has anyone tried this yet?

I like Bit torrent, but there's no "search for media" like most p2p... and it has popups, oddly enough...

Google needs to infuse an option to search for .bit files.

bittorrent has no popups - it's your computer or the bittorrent client you're using...

Why exactly would you want to search for .bit files when BitTorrent uses .torrent files?  :P

And use another client if you don't like the "pop ups"  I use BitTornado and am very happy with it.
