Title: t-moulding sizing Q's

I have a few questions about t-moulding. I am wondering what is the best size t-moulding to use for 12mm MDF (approx 0.47inch) and for 16mm MDF (approx 0.62 inch). Is it 5/8 inch for 12mm and 3/4 inch for 16mm??? I have done some t-moulding research and have only found these sizes.

Can I use t-moulding suitable for 16mm and trim it down for the 12mm???. My problem is I am planning to build a 12mm minicab/desktop with a 16mm control panel. I can only buy t-moulding by the 25ft length in the US and buying 2 different sizes and shipping them to Oz may be a bit excessive (of course I may use them in future projects  ;D) So I am hoping that I can get away with one size... but if that won't work or if it is difficult to trim I may need to reconsider.

Does anyone know where I can get a slot router bit in Australia suitable for 16mm/or 12mm. I may need to get the bit from the US to match the t-moulding especially if I buy it from the US. I have seen t-molding form Ozstick but they only have one type  :( and I am looking for something different to this)

use 1/2" for 12mm and 5/8" for 16mm

You can get the right slot cutting bit from

who are in ACT somewhere

can't remember what size it was, but it was something like 1.6mm
I think? I bought one, and it worked great.

Depending on where you are in Oz and what colour t-molding you are after, we could share an order. I'm in Adelaide and I am going to order red t-molding for my desktop cab (yes, another person designing one at present).

If you get 18mm t-molding, you could just (carefully) cut the excess off with a knife.

Thanks for the offer captainpotato, however i am interested in either white or black t-moulding.  I am also in NSW, so a distance from SA. Good luck with your project.Hope to see some pics of your cab...

Oh well i guess whatever t-moulding i use will just have to be used in another future project  ;D

That's fine - I've gone ahead and ordered what I needed (orange, not red, in the end). 20' won't have a heap extra (well, yes, but it's not like having kilometres of the stuff), and as the price isn't much more than black molding in Australia, I'm happy to pay the difference.

I'm already taking heaps of photos, and I haven't even turned the router on (in anger?) yet ;)
