Title: Shuffleshot HELP!
Post by: electricd on September 16, 2004, 06:30:54 pm
Ok, my wife is killing me to be able to play "Shuffleshot", but I just can't get it working correctly on my arcade unless I am doing something wrong.  I have a 3" Happ trackball hooked up directly to a Ultimarc Optipac.  The ball works fine in other games (shuuz, marble madness, golden tee, etc).  But for some reason in shuffleshot, I can't get the puck to take off!  I roll the ball fast, and the puck goes past the "3" marker on my end, but never releases.  I up the sensitivity, and then when I roll it it goes off the table every time!

Do I understand correctly that all I should have to do is roll the ball forward to move the puck down the alley?  There is no button I need to hit to release my throw or anything??  If that is the case, would anyone mind telling me what thier analog settings are set to for this game. (if your answer is default, just what is the default, I have a feeling I might have changed that too!)

Any help would be great!  Thanks.

Unsure of a solution to the problem, but yes you are correct that there is no button to release the puck.

i have the same problem with shuffleshot.

if you want to reset the default configuration go to your cfg folder in mame and delete the shufshot.cfg file

We often play world class bowling and shuffleshot, shuuz, etc.

My trackball is a 2 1/4" ultimarc. For some reason it took quite a while for me to get the adjustment correct on shuffleshot, but I didn't have to do very much with either bowling or shuuz.

I normally just go into the 'analog controls' section of the in-game config (tab key) and adjust the Y setting of the trackball (sorry can't remember the exact name at the moment).

It needs to be 'just right' so you can judge the power of your shots. There's no foul in the same way as bowling, so if you move the trackball slowly it just moves the puck forward till it goes as far forward as it can go. If you move it quick enough then it will launch the puck.

Hope this helps.. :)

Yea I don't have any problems with world class bowling or shuuz either.  I will mess with the settings some more tonight.  While I am on this similar subject, what is the process to clean the Happ trackball?  Mine makes a strange "clicking" sound when its rolled, and I doubt it is supposed to, but have never really messed with it.  Thanks.

I play Shuffleshot all the time with my happ 3" trackball - no problems at all.
Here's my 'Analog Controls' settings:

Track X Key/Joy Speed    32
Track X Reverse              ON
Track X Sensitivty            25%
Track Y Key/Joy Speed    32
Track Y Reverse               OFF
Track Y Sensitivity            25%

Actually, I can't remember if these are the default, or if I ever changed them.
Also,  I'm not sure if your mouse settings under Windows affect anything.  Anyway, I'm running MAME32 under XP, with XP using the plain, vanilla mouse driver.  Mouse speed is set at 'Fast' - all the way to the right; with a click to 'Enhance pointer precision'.   I have no options for any sort of acceleration.
