i've ordered a pcb to test the monitor but it hasn't arrived yet

What software is running?
Did you try forcing MAME to use a low resolution, like 320x240?

the arcadevga card has only a 1 port  - for a jpac connection - so no i can't, but i have enabled agp on the bios.

did test the machine with a pc monitor when it had a pci vga card in and it worked fine.

i have read problems people have with arcadevga drivers but i'm not even getting a bios screen ???? so as to allow me to f8 and install the drivers - just a blue monitor?

From what I recall from a bit of reading here and there, most newish arcade monitors default to a blue screen when they get no signal (can anyone confirm this?).

The fact that pressing a player button causing a ripple is a bit disconcerting. Do you perhaps have your connections mixed up? Did all buttons and joys work when you tested with a PC monitor?

Try testing with all controls disconnected. And double-check your JPAC jumper settings.
