Title: Dead 19 inch monitor
Post by: Evil Otto on September 13, 2004, 02:59:47 pm
Hello,

I have a rb tapper cab with 19 inch monitor.  Game works fine b/c I hooked up to different monitor.  THe dead monitor is just that, dead - it makes no noise or gives any indication of life when powered up.  I would like to get it working if possible.  Wondering if this was potentially an easy fix.  I would like to troubleshoot it without removing monitor from cabinet if possible.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Need to know the model # of the monitor to help.  It's likely that it's either an Electrohome G07 or a Wells Gardner K46xx series, but could be any depending on how many swaps were done by previous owner(s).  Here are the main things you'll probably need to do:

- Find the model and use google to search for troubleshooting flowcharts for the model.

- Get a digital multimeter ($2.99 on sale at Harbor Freight) to test for voltages at the isolation transformer, at the monitor, and test continuity on the fuses / etc.. on the board.

- Google for information on how to safely discharge the monitor and remove the anode cap.

- Go to http://www.therealbobroberts.com and order a cap kit (and possibly fuses and/or HOT and/or Flyback) for the monitor, and a good desoldering tool/soldering iron if you don't already have one

- Replace the caps, fuses, HOT and flyback as necessary

- If too costly/not enough knowledge, consider a replacement chassis, search this forum or google for info on replacement chassis.
