Am thinking about adding N64 emulation to my project but hard drive space is at a premium.
Can anyone provide any feedback about how well the emulation works?
Do you need a really high end computer?
Is it difficult to use with standard control panel controls?
What about a USB connected gamepad?
Any advice or opinions would be much appreciated.

I have just recently setup N64 on my comp trying it out so I have limited experience but here is what I have found:
- Inregards to limited space, the roms I have average between 10 and 15 meg each
- The comp I have it on (@ work, shhhh!) is a P4 1.7 and it runs fine. The only problem is that some graphics don't render properly due to my lack of a graphics card. A decent card would fix this.
- the few games I have tried would work fine on a std control panel (whatever that is) but I can see where you could run out of controls on some games
- A usb connected game pad, or even a N64 controller with a PC adaptor, is certainly an option and would rectify this
Overall I think N64 is going to be a worthy addition to my cab. Iwould recomend adding it to yours.

There hasn't been a lot of updates in the n64 emulation scene in the last year. So download a few emulators and try it.
I didn't add it to my cab because of the controls. But if you are going to get a n64->usb converter... you should be fine.
just try it on your hardware and see on a few games how well it works for you. about 80% (pure guess) of the roms are playable and probably 60% are near flawless.

I was going to use a computer gamepad to make it easier. I have a Logitech Dual Action already that I bought to play Simpsons Hit & Run but it probably doesnt have enough buttons to emulate an N64 controller.

Do you happen to know if Goldeneye is among the flawless? That's pretty much the only N64 game that I even remember exists.

If you only need one reason to add N64 its for sure 4 player Mario Kart 64. Weve played the hell out of that game on my machine.

There must be something wrong with how I'm running the N64 games on my PC. I'm using Project64, and have tried it on two different machines. I get all kinds of lag intermittently. The games run, but then they pause and stutter throughout. I forget what plugins I'm using, but they were the most recent ones I could find. I tried both full screen and windowed modes, and it didn't help anything. I also tried the OpenGL plugin versus the other types.
AMD Athlon 2GHZ
512 MB PC2100 DDR RAM
Radeon AIW 64 MB Video Card
AMD Athlon 1.7GHZ
1 GB PC133 RAM
Radeon 9700 128 MB Video Card
If anyone has suggestions, that would be great.
Thanks,
Jim

EXACT same problem here, latest plugins etc. Running on a P4 2.6 512mb ram. No idea why its pausing and stuttering so bad. Geforce4 vid card also.

I run 1964 and it's great on my Athlon XP 2400.

I only get the pausing and stutering on certain games (Killer Instinct Gold), but other games (Mortal Kombat 4) work fine.
