Title: New to MAME - dumb question
Post by: javeryh on September 08, 2004, 10:53:46 am
I just got MAME running on my computer for the first time and I was able to find one game for it - ms. pac-man.  I got it to work but I was wondering if there was a way to center the game on the screen because (as you know) it plays vertically.  The game appeared to be justified to the left and there was a large amount of unused monitor space on the right.  Can I center it?  Thanks!

Try to run it on the biggest resolution your card / monitor supports ... normaly that should center it ...

Which FE are you using?  As you can set a higher aspect ratio to make the image fill the screen.

I'm not using a front end at the moment... I downloaded and installed mame, downloaded mspacman.zip and put it into the "roms" folder and then ran it using the DOS window out of Windows 98...  I really don't know what I'm doing yet...  :)  I also downloaded qix but it won't play properly.  It moves 100mph so it is unplayable...

GREAT site here... for all beginners

www.mameworld.net/easyemu (http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu)

Then  for your centering issue.  If you have a new computer, you probably want to turn on hwstretch.  This will make all games full screen (or as full as it can with keeping it in the correct aspect ratio.)

this is done by either typing "mame -cc" this creates a mame.ini file.  Edit this to configure each parameter (and yes, one is hwstretch... change it to 1).

if your running mame32 (or any version with a gui) you will have to look around... don' tuse them
