Finally got the MDF last week and did my cutting this weekend (I'm using the plans from Project Arcade).
I messed up a measurement somewhere - when I lay to two side pieces on top of one another they line up everywhere but the section that curves inward. I made the straight part longer on one of them and now they're like 1/3 inch different.
I can try to cut that little bit off of one of the pieces. Is it possible to do smaller work with a small coping saw or hacksaw? I'll fire the sabre saw back up if I have to, but I don't want to cause more damage than I have to.
I suck at this.

If you have it or can borrow it, a router with a pattern cutting bit would make short work of fixing that mistake. Just use the smaller piece as a pattern for the larger.

You could also clamp the pieces together flush and then try to sand back the larger edge until it matches.
For what it's worth, I installed my monitor shelf yesterday and promptly realized that my 2x4 support beam in the back would prevent me from ever actually putting the monitor in.. gonna have to fix that this weekend. :)

When the sides are two or so feet apart is it noticeable?

Clamp the pieces together and belt sand until they are the same. That is what I did with mine.
