Title: Rootbeer Tapper help - it is alive!
Post by: Evil Otto on September 05, 2004, 09:23:09 pm
Hello,

I have a rootbeer tapper cab that was non-working.  After playing with it for a bit and installing new monitor, the game is now back to life.  Actually, it is a Budweiser Tapper board installed in Rootbeer tapper cab.
Everything works except sound.  When I turn on the cab, I get a message "sound interface board error."
Anyone have any thoughs on troubleshooting this problem?  I would love to get the sound working.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Wow, that free cabinet gets better and better.

It is most likely the Z80, or the interconnect cables. You can easily replace the Z80 chip (make sure you get the right version). Also try reseating the cables.

This is a VERY common problem in MCR games (Spy hunter, Tron, tapper, etc...) Searching  google's arcade groups gives a wealth of information on this topic. Make sure you search for only "Sound Board interface error" So you get the results from all MCR games.
