Title: 4 player games that would work on a cocktail
Post by: paigeoliver on September 02, 2004, 06:58:23 am
Looking at my cocktail in progress here I am simply not liking the panel that has the oddball controls on it. It is all sort of functional, but I am not sure if I want to do it that way now.

Now, what if I simply made that panel mostly like the one on the other side (reducing buttons to 3) and put a spinner in the center instead of a trackball.

Now, here is the rub.

How many 4 player games would actually be playable with that setup?

Basically the 4-player games have to have a top down perspective to work properly, as Simpsons would suck from the wrong side, even if your controller was mapped the correct way.

So far I have come up with

Track and Field
Hyper Sports
88 games
Gauntlet
Gauntlet 2
John Elway's Team Quarterback
Kick and Run
Touchdown Fever
Barricade/comotion/checkmate
Cops n Robbers
Smash TV 2 player mode.

If I wanted to use bad controls then I could also add Eliminator and warlords.

Now what else is there? Anything else in Mame? Any console games that would work?

Yes, except it isn't an Atari football, it is a Dunk Shot. Very similar cabinet, but not the same as AF.

Paige, they may not be 4 player, but Super Sprint, Indy Heat and Offroad Racing are 3 player, so they almost count - in any case, they shall be going on my 4 player cocktail cabinet that is being designed currently. You could also add in Sprint 4 to have 4 players.

If you wanted to branch out into other emulators, you could add the best soccer/football game ever - Sensible World of Soccer (Amiga). It can be played by 4 players. Not sure exactly how the joystick mapping would work, but I imagine that it would because of the keyboard emulation.
