many of the tombstones have console cds too.

Come on guys, its bad enough you are pirating arcade roms (yeah I know they are from 10-20 years ago...), but pirating console games is just plain wrong. Get a job and buy the damn game. Geesh!

I kind of have to agree on this one... I'm very sparce about the console roms I get, they are almost always images of games I actually own. I mean come on most of them you can buy for like 5 bucks now.

I think i remember hearing about a place called effingspam (.com ?)
I understand has console and computer roms avail on cd... never got anything from them so your mileage may vary ymmv.

Do you have mp3s you downloaded off the net that you don't have the CD, DVD, tape, LP for?

Yes I do, and these are ones which are freely available from the artists website or mp3.com. I also happen to have 5 original arcade cabinets, and several PC and Console emulator CDs from the real game manufacturers (Midway, Atari, Namco). Why do you ask?

I ask to to just make you think about what you said. It didn't matter if you answered yes or no.
You say arcade pirating is bad but pirating consoles is plain wrong. It's the exact same thing.
I'd be the first one in line if there was any hope of making a good compywrite law for software. Anything over 10 years old should be fair game. No one is making money off of it anymore, the computing world changes to fast. (BTW, I mean games, not business software.

Its kind of ironic that Mame is a big reason why these "classic roms" have come back into the market place. They do indeed still make money off the licenses (today) with PC and Console "classic packs" (using their own emulation software). I'm sure it doesn't contribute nearly anything to their profit margins....so yes its BAD to pirate them, but its not hurting the industry much.
Now the opposite is true with console pirating. Software companies are pouring loads of money and man hours on creating (rather sucky) console titles, only to have them ripped off. So in turn they jack up the price to off set the loss in revenue through pirating. So you are in turn hurting the industry and the end users! This is why its just plain wrong.
-Dave

I would agree that pirating CAN hurt new consoles like XBOX, PS, and PS2. But the NES is dead...no money is to be made, and no matter what they still will jack the prices up. In the 80's there was little pirating if any and games still were 80 Canadian (about 40-50 US) that was very high!!
-
Yeah, the consoles are just like the arcades. There are emus out there trying to emulate the latest and greatest arcades too. There are also tons of good quite old console emus out there to, not just new ones.
One could put the same arguement to arcades. They are being pirated, therefore people are staying home to play them, therefore in order to make money we have to jack up the price at the arcade.
Like I said, exactly the same thing, not the complete opposite.
Proof, why is mame.dk down... That's the arcade side.
Why was bleem taken down...The console side.

PLEASE DONT PIRATE ps2 games people...look what you did to dreamcast(including me).now i feel like crying because dreamcast is dead.thats the best console ever so same will happen to ps2 if we dont consider buying any game ever.
however,i am not asking anyone to buy crap games.
i mean why should i pay like $50 for a game like sky gunner or bruce lee for x-box.those games should be like $5 so if i have $5 extra laying around i can go get a game then trash it.
games like metal gear solid 2,medal of honor, silent hill 2 and some other if you count should be bought at stores.end of story 8)
they are worth more then $50 in my opinion. :)
-
Sigh. pirating software did not kill the dreamcast. I'm not saying it didn't help, but it didn't kill it. Sega killed it. They couldn't sell the machine, that's why they kept lowering the price of it. They sold software really well. Hence that's why they are still in it. But they were caught between a hard place and sony.... The psx had more title, that's what hindered the start of the dc, the promise of a ps2 coming soon is what killed the dc in the end.
-
Yeah sega's problem was it's credibility. The orignal maseter system was teriffic and ahead of it's time and thus they got a fairly strong user base from it, even though nintendo still creamed them. When the genesis came out they had a lot of loyal sega fans that bought it even though it was inferior graphically and sound wise, compared to the snes. By the time the n64 came out sega's pitiful hardware attempts had became apparent and people started ignoring their systems. When the Dc came out they finally had a technologically superior system, but people weren't about to fork over the cash for it for fear that it would only be around for about 3 months like the 32x or the other retarded subsystems they came out with. After the ps2 came out it became apparent that it was inferior to the dreamcast. The dc came out a full year before the ps2 and it's graphics are still on par with the average ps2 title. But by then all the stupid little boys and girls had their parents to uy them the crappy ps2 and it was too late.
So don't blame piracy, blame sony. The ps1 killed the n64 even though the n64 was a better system with better games. (There was even a cd add-on that never made it to the us because sony's competition was too fierce.) They did it with shovel ware. History repeated itself with the dc. Fortunately with round three the public is starting to realize the errors of it's ways. Although the cube and the box struggled at first... over time they are selling more units while the ps2 is not. This is good news for the gaming industry in my opinion.
I have nothing personal against the fine game makers at sony but when a system doesn't pass the nintendo seal of quality (Check out your video game history regarding the snes and playstation.) then there was probably a good reason why the company making it had no business releasing it.

I agree with this point. If you're talking about new (or CURRENT) consoles, then yeah, I would say it's wrong. But the CLASSICS (ie - games that aren't even available) are a bit what we're about, yes?
-
These are my opinions, I could be wrong.
ANYTHING that has a copy write or trademark does not belong to you and can only be used as said by the creator. ANYTHING you say to the contrary is just to make you feel better as you go about your happy pirating. Unless the original owner of the copywrite material has given their blessings to use it, it is illegal. So, as far as I know, my MAME cab is violating copy rights to someone. Do I care? No. Do you care? Yes. Thats why your going to such lengths to draw lines to make you feel better and others are "going over the line". It's all over the line!
We need to understand and embrace these facts, don't hide.
Let me start.
I play most all emulated MAME but only own one arcade game PCB, and I AM PROUD! I will continue to run emulated console games that I enjoy even though I only own a few Coleco and Atari games, and will feel no remorse.
I know that I am violating copy write laws and I am not afraid to day it. Looks like I am the only one

It's not a matter of fearing the law, it's a matter of being respectful towards the authors of the games. A team of developers put their time effort and creative genius into all of these games. It's not a matter of what is legal or illegal, it's a matter of what's right and wrong.
If you can sleep at night stealing from the mouths of the loley programmer who made a great console game a few months ago only to have you steal it instead of doing the right thing and forking over the modest price for it then more power to ya.
Difference between stealing new games/roms and old ones is stealing the old one's doesn't hurt the company who made them or the programmers who were paid to make them. The games are dead. they are no longer in production and they can no longer be purchased in the first hand market.
Yes we all steal roms in the legal sense but most of us have enough respect to draw the line when it comes to new console games and arcade games that are less than a year old.
The copyright laws need to be changed in such a way that the actual rom image is physical property and the code and artwork inside is intellectual property only until it is transferred to a physical medium. That way the developers could be happy as they could hold life time rights to the characters and the source code and emu guys could be happy as it could be setup that the physical rom could be made public domain after so many years as long as it's not used specifically to make profit, similar to how they do stock footage now. Until such legislation is put into effect we will all happily bend the law. But that doesn't mean we have to lose our sense of what's right and what's wrong.

HI
Well I can see that I started a little bit of a ---smurfette--- fest..ehheheh..but no one actually posted any sites.. :( ah well.

you got enough clues... but here you go..
http://www.effinspam.com/
and someone mentioned that some of the tombstone MAME burners also offer on the side console roms...
do you need someone to come over and move the mouse and type on the keys for you in order to find what you need?
