Title: Robotron Font
Post by: warreng on September 01, 2004, 04:49:16 pm
I am getting ready to start my cabinet and need some help regarding the artwork. My marquee and CP overlay designs are going to be based on the Robotron cabinet. I know the font is Data 70 (view it HERE (http://www.fonts.com/findfonts/detail.asp?pid=203798). Unfortunatley it runs anywhere from $30 - $35. I hate to spend that much for one word. Does anyone know where I can get a (very accurate) knock-off of this font? Or does anyone have this font and feel generous?

I can use the vectorized version from Arcade Art but that would be WAY more work than if I had the real font.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know of any *names* of any knockoffs, but they definitely abound on the internet.

I must have at least 20 fonts like that... seems like everytime I'm on a free font site, I run into one like that and download it.

I'm in crunch time right now on a project but if nobody else comes up with it in the next week, PM me.

Not sure if it's the same, but there's a Robotron font listed here (http://www.empire-of-the-claw.com/Fonts/Fontpages/claws_game_zone.htm).

Thanks Witchboard, that's close but it doesn't have the rounded corners on the letters. It looks fine at small type sizes but full size on a marquee it would be pretty obvious.

Thanks anyway,
Warren

I found that by doing a google search for "Robotron Font".  Obviously I didn't take too much time.  You should give it a shot and see what comes up.

I have a font called Westminster that looks as if it's a good match for Robotron. I have no idea where I got it from, I think it was one of the hundreds of free font sites out there.

After a quick Google search I fount it here:
http://usuarios.lycos.es/serginho_11/fonts

its called westm.zip

have a clone called Techno28 for _only_ $25 ???

As a consolation, the page will generate very large samples with any words you type for free that you can rt. click and save...

Is there something I should be seeing there? If so I must be missing it.

Yesterday at about 4:19 pm eastern time "someone" posted a topic with the subject REQ Techno28 or Data 70

Two people responded with Data 70! Both ttf and Postscript.

It's the same font used on Defender CP, too, which is where I want it.

I didn't find the one from yesterday, but I did put in a REQ and someone filled it. Thanks for the tip on the newsgroup angle.
